DeSantis cleared of ethics complaint filed by Trump-aligned PAC
The Washington Examiner ^ | April 29, 2023 | Cami Mondeaux

The Florida Commission on Ethics dismissed a complaint filed by a Trump-aligned super PAC that accused Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) of violating state law by using his state to fundraise and court a presidential run without declaring his candidacy.

The Make America Great Again Inc. PAC filed the complaint in March, alleging DeSantis is guilty of “illegal conduct” by using his Friends of Ron DeSantis PAC to fundraise in the early months of 2023 despite not launching a White House bid. However, the Florida commission shot down those allegations in a 12-page report released this week, ruling that MAGA Inc. failed to cite specific allegations that were in violation of the law.

"The compliant fails to indicate in a factual, substantive, nonconclusory manner that [DeSantis] solicited or accepted anything with an understanding that it would influence an official decision associated with his public office," the ethics board wrote, according to the report obtained by Fox News. "The complaint details alleged actions taken by other organizations for the benefit of [DeSantis'] anticipated presidential campaign, but never once expressly alleges that [DeSantis] and these organizations have an agreement or understanding, or that [DeSantis] has conditioned any public action on any donation, contribution, gift, or other thing of value."

The group accused DeSantis of possibly violating state law by using his “personally lucrative book tour” to court voters, alleging that the governor likely used the opportunity to solicit or accept gifts. The ethics commission rejected that allegation, calling the accusations merely speculative.

Trump should stick to attacking Democrats instead of Conservatives.

Why should he? He should spend his time attacking the people whose belief systems are most opposed to his?

“Why should he? He should spend his time attacking the people whose belief systems are most opposed to his?”

DeSantis is the true conservative that Trump is afraid of.

That's what Trump acts like. At the end of the day, Trump disagrees with the right side of the Republican party, more than the Democrats.

And that's why he has McConnell and McCarthy, to put these people in their place.

Good news for Ron.

He is a man of honor.

These false charges and pac scams will continue, though.

Too bad the MAGA thugs don’t apply this money and energy to getting Joe and Hunter Biden indicted.

Trying to win our primary vote by (1) poisoning the metaphorical water hole to prevent honest competition, and...

(2) Hiding from the debates, also to prevent honest competition.

Wanted: straight up debates between Governor DeSantis and Mister Trump. Both of the above would make compelling questions and answers.

Why? In April 2023 Trump would go after Biden only if he was stupid. But unlike some posters, Trump is not stupid. His first obstacle is Not Biden. There is plenty of time to go after Biden when nominated.

Trump is destroying our chances in 24 .
Trumps scorched earth Hate Fest will divide the Gop.
I have never seen such destructive selfish petty attacks made against
a fellow Gop candidate in my life .
Ron is a wonderful successful self made conservative with a lovely family .
Trump needs to stopped before we lose in a massive defeat in 24 and Biden
controls the House , Senate. , and the Supreme court .

I agree. Republicans attacking other Republicans is nonsensical.
Democrats need all our attention though.

Old Mark Rusell joke when Dems were trying to find something to hurt the GOP with an ethics complaint.

“This isn’t new. There was an ethics investigation of the Democrats, too, a couple of years ago. None were found.”

Trump’s disavowal of Brooks, who was the first Republican congressman to vote against certifying the 2020 election results on January 6, 2021, also gave Britt momentum in the race, and her campaign trained its focus on Durant.

Britt has cast herself as a Trump-aligned conservative while arguing that Brooks, a six-term congressman, is a career politician who only recently embraced the former President after heavily criticizing him during the 2016 GOP presidential primary.

Perhaps most annoyed with Trump’s entry into the runoff was Brooks. In a statement shared by his campaign, Brooks blasted the former President as “the only man in American politics who could get conned by Mitch McConnell twice.”

“Let’s just admit it: Trump endorses the wrong people sometimes. He endorses Mitt Romney, he endorses John McCain and now he’s endorsed Katie Britt, who his own son, Don Jr. called ‘Alabama’s Liz Cheney,’” the Brooks campaign wrote.

Yep. Intramural squabbling will win us exactly zero votes.

I really liked the Trump presidency, life was good then, gas and food affordable.
But neither Don nor Ron is a perfect person. We just have to be smart enough to put forth the one with the best chance of winning. At this point, I don’t know. A lot of time until then and who knows what might happen.

Nothing good if they keep stabbing one another in the back.

Trump is destroying our chances in 24 .

True, this.

Simply put, (and I wish I had better news) Mister Trump cannot win in the 24 general election.

The electorate has had 8 years since 16 to change, with more liberal-inclined younger voters, more illegal alien voters, and fewer of my generation.

Add this to the number of GOP allies and voters who Mister Trump has chosen to insult over the past 8 years.

The Dems aren't doing it now, as they know better. However once their favored opponents wins the GOP nod, the spot ads will be nonstop "indicted", "impeached", and "hush money to porn star".

Fair?

Of course not.

It is what it is, and low info voters will sink Trump.
