Freshwater fish contaminated with toxic "forever chemicals" found in nearly every state

A recent study by the Environmental Working Group using freshwater fish samples collected by the Environmental Protection Agency found contaminated fish in almost every state.

"Nearly every single sample had PFAS in it, and at levels that consuming a single serving of fish would be equivalent to a year of contaminated water," said David Andrews, a senior scientist at the Environmental Working Group and one of the authors of the EPA study.

"Researchers say their review found eating one freshwater fish is similar to drinking water polluted with PFOS — one of the two most widely studied PFAS — at levels of 48 parts per trillion for a month... high exposure to the chemicals can cause kidney and testicular cancers, fertility issues, thyroid disease and reduced response to vaccines over time."

Apparently, that amount is of concern.

I think that’s the same reason why insect populations are falling. Chemicals.

My family has a property near mammoth cave park. Zero commercial farmers, zero factories, just small cow and horse farms and thousands upon thousands of acres of woods. Insects, amphibians , birds etc dropping just as fast as everywhere else. I think it’s in the air gets to the ground through rain.

Climate change makes no sense to happen this fast, nor does ground water pollution as areas around the park are as clean as they can be. Guess it could be some weird disease like a virus or fungi but I doubt it.

They knew this in the 1960’s but who lobbies the Hill? Pretty sure it isn’t average Joe peon that has to drink that water while they run to Fiji. How is it islands seem to be involved? Forgot- that’s how they protect themselves from us- a giant moat. LOL. So why did they bringing this back up now? Foster more hatred when it’s all a big show? Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Love wins.

Reminds me of the toxic ‘mercury’ that contaminated tuna a half-century ago.

Tainted fish? Just another hazard to worry about.

That’s a very high level of toxicity.
I’m not sure if there is any way back from this that doesn’t mean outlawing any fishing in certain bodies of water if the fish is meant for human consumption. This could be a ‘temporary measure’ lasting a couple of years.

My non-expert speculation;
New, healthy fish could be bred and fed in institutional settings. It may take a couple generations of certain fish to become genetically cleansed of the high level toxins.
This would take a lot of the fun out of Sportsman Fishing, unfortunately.

This group was way far left, it may be true but I wouldn’t be looking to them for truth.

Is this going to be something like the Dioxin and PCB scare from forty five years ago?

Goop-fish.

Fishlike goop manufactured in factories with high quality control for your safety and health concerns.

Grown from the best fish-like goop ever created in a lab.

I did lab testing at many sites from Maine to PR found lots of contaminated sites. Ran two GC’s at each site sometimes 4.

Why worry about the fish? People have lived in chemical atmospheres for years like agriculture, factories, shipyards, and many other locations. And it goes far greater than DDT.

And some of these are being grandfathered out.
