Job openings hit lowest level in two years as Fed weighs more rate hikes

The number of open jobs in the economy decreased to 9.6 million in March, down from 9.9 million on the last day in February, as concerns about a recession later this year hung over the economy, according to data released Tuesday by the Labor Department.

The 9.6 million open jobs in the economy are the lowest number since April, 2021.

The February Job Openings and Labor Turnover (JOLTS) report was in line with the economists’ expectations and left the ratio of available jobs to job seekers unchanged from February to March at about 1.7— conditions that are still beneficial to workers.

The increased rate at which people have been leaving jobs and moving to new ones has been bolstered by a remarkably strong labor market during the recovery from the pandemic.

The unemployment rate is still near a 50-year low at 3.5 percent, with numbers for March to be reported on Friday.

But there are no job openings? Golly. Has Biden given us a perfect economy? Everyone has a job ... and every company has a full complement of workers and has no need to hire any one new? It's a miracle!

The unemployment rate is at 3.5% and yet I see multiple companies laying off thousands.

They wouldn’t be lying to us, now would they?

FED meeting is May 2-3, so we should know by tomorrow afternoon how much/little the rate will increase/decline.

"The number of open jobs in the economy decreased to 9.6 million in March..."

Sounds to me that if you want to work there might be an opening around you somewhere.
How many "open" jobs is optimal?

The rate hikes haven’t solved the problem. They are a false solution. The way to slow inflation is to stop issuing money out of thin air. This will not happen, since government is addicted to its ability to devalue the currency.

Why should people work with the high welfare/entitlement benefits?
