Russia came to Donetsk defense and has for more than eight years. The ethnic population from the beginning of the illegal coup we fomented was persecuted and murdered by Ukrainian nationalists and neo-Nazis.

In my county we’ve got 180 families from eastern and southern Ukraine, all of which are Russian speakers, all of them fled the invasion in 2022, some only got here after three months of trekking to safe countries and sleeping on floors in refugee centers.
Most of the adults have learned English since getting here, are working full time, paying their taxes, and crowdfunding to buy the Ukrainian forces ammo and drones.
Those are the people your Putin loving bullshit merchants reckoned needed saving from an ongoing genocide by the Nazis. I’ve yet to meet a Ukrainian from the Donbas who doesn’t call bullshit on that.
The closest I’ve heard is, “it was almost that bad in 2014 and 2015 but not since 2018, and the Pushilin led junta was responsible for half of it.”
The people of the Donbas would not have batted an eyelid if Pushilin and his fake regime had been found swinging from lamp posts. Lest you forgot, the DPR has doggedly avoided ever having its legitimacy confirmed with free and fair elections.
Elections involving 300 militants in a stormed public building, and referendums held where blank ballot sheets go in the yes pile along with yes votes that were cast at gunpoint, aren’t free or fair.

If the Donbas population majority wanted to be saved by Russia from the Nazis AND wanted to join the Russian Federation...
1. Why did a few million of them wait until spring 2022 to flee the “genocide”?
2. If Russian propaganda is correct, they could’ve fled east into Russia and been in complete safety within 48 hours, or fled behind Russian troop lines. So why did they spend weeks traveling thousands of miles to get into Europe instead?
3. Why, according to Pushilin and Putin, did the narrative suddenly pivot from there only being 5000 active Nazis in east Ukraine threatening Russian settlers there, to the entire Russian speaking population of Ukraine being threatened by a Russophobic Nazi horde, to all of Ukraine and all of Europe being overrun with Nazis threatening Russia?
4. Why does even the FSB backed ombudsman in Donetsk agree with the OCSE and UN and Red Cross that by 2021 there were barely any Russian speaking noncombatants dying at Nazi hands? More were being killed by getting lost in the snow after nights of heavy drinking, than were killed by bombs or bullets. Some of the civilian deaths were from landmines that had been planted many years earlier, and Pushilin’s lot were just as guilty of planting mines as the Nazi battalions.
You mean the Russians aren’t the great liberators of Russian settlers in East Ukraine? Thanks for setting the record straight.
