The Alberta blues: One-fifth of Canadians want out
American Thinker ^ | 05/17/2023 | Silvio Canto Jr.

There are many Canadians in Texas – at least it feels that way when one of their hockey teams come to town. By the way, some of my most interesting conversations about socialized medicine have been with Canadians.

So what's going on up north?  Check this out:

An advocacy group in Alberta, Canada, is trying to educate residents of the province about what it argues would be the benefits of breaking off from the country to join the U.S. as its 51st state.

"I find myself having an affinity toward the U.S. more than Canada because of the freedom, Constitution and just the entire republican system versus the monarchy here, which is really a pseudonym for dictatorship," a source with the Alberta 51 Project told Fox News Digital.

Founded in 2022, the project is "dedicated to supporting education to all Albertans on why we should become the 51st state of the United States of America," according to its website. About one-fifth of Canadians in various provinces believe they would be better off under the U.S. government, according to a poll done by Research Co. earlier this year.

Interesting, isn't it? One-fifth of Canadians want out.

Before you start sewing the 51st star on the flag, please consider that a formal separation like this is probably impossible under Canadian law. It would require an act of Parliament or some type of referendum as we saw years ago with Quebec. As you may remember, that vote was super close against separation.

The situation with Alberta is a bit different. First, they have lots of oil and PM Justin Trudeau is obsessed with climate change, demonizing fossil fuels. Second, the Western provinces are more conservative and reject the Trudeau policies.

So it won't happen, but something is going on in Canada, especially west of Ontario.

How about a straight out trade? Everything east of the Hudson for Alberta? Throw in the Acela corridor down to DC for good measure on the condition that they have to take Joe Biden too.

Instead of moving, start a movement where the Western provinces want to become part of Washington, Idaho, Montana and North Dakota.

The US gets timber and other products. And some of the best deer hunting on the planet.

Just drove thru Alberta. Good people, beautiful lands. Trees, horses, cattle.
Now in BC, even more beautiful. It would be great to get Alberta, BC and Yukon added to the US. We can only dream.

Also have seen a lot of “F” Trueturd signs and sentiment. Most of the campgrounds I’ve stayed in have Canada and US flags flying. These are not just private camps, a few city entities as well.

Alberta would have to be retarded to join the U.S.

I wouldn't trade the corruption and malfeasance of Ottawa for the corruption and malfeasance of Washington D.C. under any circumstances.

My former company has an office in Calgary (oil and gas) and whenever they would come down to Texas for meetings, they would say the same thing. We want to be North Montana. Southeast New Mexico wants to be part of Texas.

RE: We want to be North Montana.

Why not just become the Independent Republic of Alberta?

2015 i was at the Indianapolis 500 and happen to sit at a table for breakfast with an older couple from Alberta- very nice people. They were politically very Conservative. I told them i lived 2 miles from Hillary Clinton- they asked if i liked her and i laughed. Then then told me their fears (remember- this is 2015) was Alberta, which was usually an uber Conservative are,a had just voted in liberals as well as socialists and they could see the writing on the wall.

Yes Yes Yes.

Just them putting it out there and teasing it would send folks into a tizzy.

I hope it spreads because Canada is also in real trouble. They have genuine nutcases in Ottawa.

I would welcome Alberta with open arms. Better yet, I’ll trade. We get Alberta, Canada gets Massachusetts. Both will be much happier.

How about Saskatchewan for Connecticut?
Yukon for Rhode Island.

OOH! I like your trade terms even better than mine. They have to take all of New England. We get Alberta and Saskatchewan.

British Columbia is like Oregon and Washington State.

Each of them would be great if you could just nuke one city in each.

This is why Trudeau wants to confiscate their hunting rifles. There is a lot of attention on AR15s, but hunting rifles are the greatest threat to commie politicians. To hell with the 223s. Worry more about the 338 Lapuas.

Yeah, many Canadian’s are pretty liberal and have a severe sense of superiority over the USA. Starting with their health care, it’s free ya know.

Pretty easy when you don’t need a military and live under the umbrella of American protection.

I know a bunch of them.
