It’s disappointing, but not surprising.
Indeed, I’m not sure it’s even possible to save them now.
Blue cities are the way they are because of the residents. Most importantly, the rich white liberals that, for the most part, are relatively safe from all the violence and mayhem.
But, at some point, the violence and mayhem creeps on their front door.
What do those that are the root cause of all the problems do? They leave. They take the job that they’ve been doing remotely and leave. Most of the time to the suburbs or those small, semi-rural towns. When they get to those places, normally with heavy Republican leanings, they set about destroying them as well.
So, at the end of the day, Blue cities don’t die. They metastasize and ruin other places as well.
From the poem Chicago (first published in Poetry Magazine in the March, 1914 issue):
Stormy, husky, brawling,
City of the Big Shoulders
And they tell me you are brutal and my reply is: On the faces of women and children I have seen the marks of wanton hunger.
And they tell me you are crooked and I answer: Yes, it is true I have seen the gunman kill and go free to kill again.
Of course they can be saved.
Lease a West Coast city to China for ten years.
They will clean up the mess Americans refuse to fix.
In order for these progressive idiots to feel the full rath of what they have created, they need to be trapped there.
Start by repealing public transportation, which is used to export their criminality to the suburbs.
The way to do that is to remove high density housing requirements from the suburban charters.
The way to do that is to make property taxes illegal.
When everyone pays for public transportation, instead of the homeowners, it will die.
Mr. Schlichter misses an important point: Democratic politicians in blue hellholes can stuff ballot boxes and negate legitimate votes. Tammany Hall in Cleveland can manufacture enough votes to negate all of the votes from Dayton and Marion. We may need a national divorce or other means to save our distressed republic.
Wish that idea were possible here in Illinois.

I’m thinking it will be like that French movie Banlieue (District) 13... instead of building walls on the border, they end up building walls around the ghettos to keep them in, with checkpoints to allow the few with productive jobs in and out.
Actually, there is no need for blue cities or even red cities, or cities of any size.
In today’s world, there is no need to be next to or close to the services which people sought when transportation or communications was either slow or non-existent.
Cities are a thing of the past, and there is nothing that people get from a city that they can’t otherwise get from a small town or village or suburb.
Let all big cities die and let’s get back to living without all the headaches.
Violent “Blue” Cities can not die.
We have already seen several times in recent history - they will be bailed out by Fed.gov debt called “stimulus” or something similar.
If you think we will somehow “vote” our way out of this, or somehow convince the Left and its millions of dependents through good arguments - you are a fool.
The ONLY choice is to return our currency to a gold-backed dollar - or something that central planners can not “print” to fund their debt and political schemes.
Its why our founding fathers considered precious metals the “currency of democracy.”
This is exactly what has happened to my city, and to my beloved State.

Makes sense to me, why keep wasing out treasure on those cesspools of useless animals?
Every time I see comments like yours, I am reminded of a novel named “City”, written by Clifford Simak and published in 1952. It’s been a while since I read it; I will have to go into the basement and find the paperback.
I think they are.
Happening everywhere.
Put simply, remote work and Instagram-hobby farms are ruining the suburbs and rural/country towns.
