Berkeley 'Black Graduation' under fire for bringing back 'Democrats' segregationist history'

The University of California-Berkeley’s African American Studies Department announced it would be hosting its annual "Black Graduation" ceremony for students on May 19 in a virtual format.

“The Department of African American Studies plans on hosting our annual Black Graduation ceremony, which is open to all majors and degree programs across the campus,” read the announcement.

The separate ceremony for African American students appears to have started as an annual event at the public university in 2013. The graduation ceremony is separate from the main graduation ceremony, which will be held virtually on May 15.

Megan Wang, a sophomore at UC-Berkeley told Campus Reform this decision to hold separate ceremonies is the “21st century equivalent of separate but equal.”

She told Campus Reform that it sends the message to students that “their race fundamentally differentiates them from other students.”

In the interests of racial equity and social justice we should make this graduation exclusively for blacks and require all black graduates that wish to go through a graduation ceremony to go to this ceremony.

Democrats in the Jim Crow South pushed separate ‘but’ equal then just like they’re trying to do now. It was horrible 60 years ago - it’s still horrible today.

Now imagine if they were having a graduation ceremony for whites only. Folks would never hear the end of it.

What is your problem with people wanting to be with their own kind?

My dad lived there back in the 50s, God rest his soul. It’s basically ground zero for the new segregationist movement.

I am glad that the College Republicans used it as an opportunity to remind everyone that the Democrats are and always have been the Party of Segregation and Race.

Nah. The Democrats always were for racism. Now, they are for anti-White racism. Prior to 50 years ago, in their KKK days, they were for anti-Black racism.

Damn straight. Democrats are the original party of slavery and racism. Republicans, on the other hand, are the party of pussies. Democrats keep giving all sorts of racism, but the GOP never uses it against the Democrats.

I understand what you wrote, but haven’t we had it drilled into our heads that the goal for America was that all of us are ‘our own kind’. The fact that blacks weren’t so considered was portrayed as the ‘shame’ and ‘original sin’ of our nation.

The trends toward unity don’t seem to be going our way.

DemocRATS love to divide, divide, divide. They just love finding more and more ways to divide us up, and then pit one group against another. They are, after all, the party of segregation and the KKK.

Stanford University, while touting and celebrating ‘diversity’ has developed segregated housing: Ujamaa House is for African-American; Okada House is for Asians; Casa Zapata is for Chicanx and Latinx (99% of Spanish speakers do not like the new Latinx phraseology, and they do not speak Latin either).

The Stanford University website explains: “”Our ethnic theme communities have a rich and long history of engaging students at the highest levels of intellectual discovery and advancing diversity””

‘Advancing diversity’ by segregation. Sounds right out of 1984.
