Protester involved in pulling down abolitionist’s statue in Wisconsin gets 6 months in jail

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A man who drove the car that helped pull down the statue of a Civil War hero and abolitionist outside of the Wisconsin state Capitol during a night of protests in 2020 has been sentenced to six months in jail.

The statue of Hans Christian Heg was toppled and beheaded during a protest in downtown Madison in June 2020 against police brutality. Protests began a month earlier over the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police and flared up again that June after Madison police arrested a Black activist.

Kelsey D. Nelson, 33, was sentenced for his role in damaging the Heg statue and for looting a nearby jewelry store about a month earlier, the Wisconsin State Journal reported Friday.

Nelson apologized in court, saying he was “someone who was trying to make a difference.”

“I was just a person who woke up and saw the injustice done to a man named George Floyd,” Nelson said. “Am I going to say what I did was right? I am not.”

6 months?

It’s not like he put his feet on Nancy Pelosi’s desk?

Ah, yes. A disciple of St. George of the Hood gets a soft sentence. The Jan 6th martyrs continue to languish. Justice is increasingly rare.

Colonel Hans Christian Heg was a Norwegian abolitionist who was killed leading a Union regiment (15th Wisconsin) at Chickamauga. Clearly some sort of racist whose statue must be destroyed.

My last name is Nelson-—

I was born in Madison-—

BUT this IDIOT cannot be part of MY Nelson clan.

IF HE THINKS “AN INJUSTICE Was done to George Floyd” with his criminal & drug records-—He needs some brain therapy.

So vandalizing the statue of a Yankee lands you in jail, while vandalizing the statue of a Confederate is just fine. All statues are equal, but some statues are more equal than others.

Who paid for repairing and remounting the statue?

Dunno...maybe if Nelson sold some of the looted jewelry he could contribute? Too harsh?

It is very important to note that those who pulled down this statue were uniformly ignorant of history.

But then again, with all the electrical engineers, physicists and mathematicians in that crowd, they simply might not have been interested in history when they were getting their bachelors and masters degrees.

"Colonel Hans Christian Heg was a Norwegian abolitionist who was killed leading a Union regiment (15th Wisconsin) at Chickamauga."
My grandmother's uncle was at Chichamauge. Here is a letter to her father about his son who was never found and probably lies in a mass grave there:

Dear Uncle

I have a little time and I thought I would write you a short letter.
We have had a hard battle and Mungo is among the missing.
We fought the 19th and 20th, and on the 20th our regiment was overpowered and our regiment fell back in some confusion, and was re-lined again, and was drove back again, and when we were going back the regiment scattered, and he has not been seen since.
That is all I can tell you about him but I think likely he has been taken prisoner. Though I can tell you something else ... He fought like a man that had the good of his country at stake.
Louis Baird was wounded in the thigh; but not bad. S. H. Henry was wounded in the same place, but not bad. Buarcad Bennett was wounded in the lungs; I don't think he will live. Jefferson Wilson was wounded and in the hands of the enemy. I do not know how bad he is. There were one killed, 14 wounded and 9 missing out of our company (Company K, 31 Ohio Volunteer Infantry). We went in with 48. They were over-powered and had to fall back to this place but we were not whiped (sic). The enemy lost more men than we did and we lost a great many but how many I do not know. There were 200 lost in our regiment, killed wounded and missing. We are expecting a fight here tomorrow. We are well fortified and can whip two to our one.
We are looking for reinforcements; probably they will be here tomorrow. I will have to close, for I am tired. I have been hard at work all day on the fortifications. I have written most of this by moonlight, so you will have to excuse me. Probably you can read it.
I hope Mungo is alive and well, and I think probably he is but a prisoner.
I will close by bidding you goodbye. I will write in a few days and give you all the news I cannot write tonight. You must write.

As ever S. A. Heriman

I got a couple of letters for Mungo today.

My love to all.

S. A. Heriman

VIOLENT MOB Attacks Democrat State Senator for Taking Picture of their Vandalism – Punch Him, Kick Him, Beat Him in the Head and Ribs

Last night ignorant leftists tore down the statue of Hans Christian Heg in Madison, Wisconsin. They beheaded the statue and then threw it in a lake. Hans Christian Heg was an abolitionist who gave his life to end slavery in America.

During their rioting Democrat Senator Tim Carpenter stopped by and took a video of the destruction. The mob turned on him. They punched him, beat him in the head, neck and ribs. They socked him in the left eye and gave him a concussion....
