Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has condemned the agreement between Russia and Belarus on supplying Russian nuclear warheads to Belarusian territory.

“This is a step which will lead to further extremely dangerous escalation,” Borrel said.
The High Representative of the European Union emphasised that the decision goes against commitments which Russia has undertaken in the Budapest Memorandum, whereby Belarus eliminated all nuclear weapons from its territory, and in the Joint Statement of the Leaders of the Five Nuclear-Weapon States of 3 January 2022 that a nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought.
“We call on Russia to abide by these commitments,” Borrel said.
He added that the Belarusian regime is an accomplice in Russia’s illegal and unprovoked war of aggression against Ukraine.
“We call on Belarusian authorities to put an immediate end to their support of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, and reverse decisions that can only contribute to heightening tensions in the region, and undermine Belarus’ sovereignty.
Any attempt to further escalate the situation will be met by a strong and coordinated reaction,” High Representative of the European Union said.
BACKGROUND:
• On Thursday, the defence ministers of Russia and Belarus signed documents on the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons on Belarusian territory. According to the self-proclaimed Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko, the nuclear weapons of the Russian Federation have already begun to be transferred to Belarus.
• The White House said that the agreements between the Russian Federation and Belarus had not changed the United States’ assessment of the nuclear threat level from the Russian Federation.

Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence has reported that in the coming hours, Russian invaders are preparing a large-scale provocation to simulate an accident at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP).

DETAILS: According to Defence Intelligence, it will be carried out directly on the territory of the ZNPP. After that, the invaders will announce an emergency leak of radioactive substances. Ukraine will, as ever, be blamed for the incident.
In order to conceal what they are doing as much as possible, the Russians have disrupted the IAEA permanent monitoring mission personnel rotation scheduled for 26 May, Defence Intelligence notes.
The purpose of this action is to provoke the international community into conducting a detailed investigation during which all hostilities will be suspended. In this way, the invaders hope to gain a much-desired pause, which they will use to regroup their ranks and stop the Ukrainian counteroffensive, the intelligence officers summed up.

Head of Ukraine’s Security Service on SSU involvement in Crimean bridge attack

Vasyl Maliuk, Head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), commenting on the explosion on the Crimean (Kerch) Bridge in October 2022, said that the SSU carried out “certain measures” for this.

QUOTE: “According to the international legislation and the customs and traditions of warfare, considering the fact that it was a logistical route that we were obliged to cut off the enemy, certain such measures were accordingly carried out. However, I will not say the details at all.”
DETAILS: According to Maliuk, Russia is conducting a pseudo-investigation into the situation with the Crimean (Kerch) Bridge.
The head of the SSU added that the occupiers imprisoned more than 20 of their fellow citizens and “incriminated each of them with a certain complicity in the whole process.”
Maliuk urged not to discuss this situation, but “it’s better to follow all this.”
He also said that the successful attack by naval drones on a ship of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation in Sevastopol Bay last October was a planned special operation of the SSU.
BACKGROUND:
On the morning of 8 October 2022, a large fire broke out on the railroad portion of the Crimean Bridge. Russian occupation authorities in Crimea claimed that a truck exploded on the Crimean Bridge. Meanwhile, Volodymyr Konstantynov, the Russian-appointed Head of the “Crimean Parliament”, alleged that “Ukrainian vandals” had damaged the road surface on the Crimean Bridge.
Later, Russian occupation media posted a video that captured the moment of the explosion on the Crimean Bridge.
In October 2022, Russia’s FSB reported on an investigation into the explosion on the Crimean Bridge. A total of eight people were detained and, according to the investigators, the Chief Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and Kyrylo Budanov, its head, are responsible for orchestrating the explosion.
In December 2022, Vasyl Maliuk, the acting Head of the Security Service of Ukraine, hinted that the Ukrainian special services could be behind the undermining of the bridge.
According to him, the SSU conducted this special operation together with Ukraine’s Navy.
There was a time, decades ago, when the Russians were experts at disinformation.

Any advance beyond Bakhmut will cost as much per step forward as Bakhmut all the way to Sloviansk. Russia is not advancing beyond Bakhmut in the near or far future.

Soldiers in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson board small dinghies every night to pass the Dnieper River and pursue their Russian adversaries.
With Russian and Ukrainian troops stationed on opposing banks, the large waterway is the most immovable front in the conflict and a barrier to the movement of troops and supplies.
However, an assault on the river’s eastern end could be the only thing that surprises the Russians as Kyiv prepares for an eagerly anticipated counteroffensive.
The Zaporizhzhia region has been the focus of rumors about the precise spot of Ukraine’s counterattack in the upcoming weeks.
Using the strategic plan of a surprise to its advantage, Ukraine launched a broad, rapid counteroffensive last autumn and liberated nearly the entire northern Kharkiv region in less than a week.
In case the Ukrainians were to strike elsewhere, as they are currently doing in the Kherson region, the Russians left Kharkiv at the moment with the smallest force configuration possible.
Drapatyy claims that despite not yet having any permanent outposts, Ukrainian Special Operations forces have already managed to cross to the east side of the river to launch attacks along the shore.
The Ukrainians would need to push the Russian locations back at least another six miles in order to get Kherson, which is on the west side, under Ukrainian control and is located about three miles from the coast from the riverbank.

Protestant pastor Gennadiy Mokhnenko has been running supplies to residents of southern Ukraine for several months.
SVT was allowed to accompany the man, who was praised by the pope himself, on a working day along the front line.

Gennadiy Mokhnenko is one of many Ukrainians who every day hope for the beginning of the spring offensive. He is also sure that once it starts, it will go quickly.
- The Russian soldiers know perfectly well that this is not their country. They are not motivated enough and when the offensive begins, they will flee.
Father Mokhnenko has been internationally rewritten for his efforts on behalf of the civilians.
He works in the Zaporizhzhia region and continuously travels down to the front to help those who live there and the soldiers who are fighting.
SVT’s team accompanied him on one of his trips, south from Zaporizhzhia, down to the village of Novoyakavlivka just kilometers from the front.
