Survey: Jim Justice Leads Joe Manchin in West Virginia Survey

West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice (R-WV) is leading Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) by double-digits in a head-to-head primary matchup in the Mountain State, a recent ECU survey found.

Justice, who jumped into the Senate race in April after stating that it is “time for the Republicans to take control of the Senate,” is leading the incumbent by 22 points among registered voters. A majority, 54 percent, support Justice, compared to 32 percent who support Manchin. Another 13 percent remain undecided, and one percent said “some other candidate.”

This coincides with the fact that Justice has a positive job approval rating, as 57 percent approve compared to 29 percent who disapprove. Further, 70 percent of Republicans, specifically, approve of Justice, as do 52 percent of independents and 39 percent of Democrats.

Conversely, Manchin’s job approval is under water, as most, 59 percent, disapprove, compared to 33 percent who approve. Further, Manchin does not see an approval as strong as Justice among his respective base, as 51 percent of Democrats approve of Manchin. Less than half of independents, 37 percent, and one-fifth of Republicans, 22 percent, approve of the Democrat politician as well.

Per the survey:

--snip --

The survey was taken May 22-23, among 957 registered voters in West Virginia. The survey has a Credibility Interval (CI) of +/- 3.7 percent.

His best strategy is to run for POTUS instead.

Neither Joe Biden nor Kamala Harris is viable, as everyone knows even if it’s not yet being spoken out loud; and Manchin would be the only replacement who appeals to non far left Dems. If the contest to replace Biden involves 3-4 far left types (e.g., Newsom), then they could split that vote and give Manchin that prize.

Justice is not one of us but we should run with him.

1) It’s butts in the seats-senate.

2) It will free up resources in Montana/Ohio.

Manchin won his Senate race in 2018 with less than 50% of the vote. Since then the entire state has turned ruby red. Manchin is the only Democrat left who holds statewide office in W.VA. There’s no future, no future, no future for you, Manchin.

As long as Manchin brings home the pork, he’ll win.

Pork delivery is not the issue it once was. The memory of the Byrd cash machine is sliding off into distant memory. Basically, that was the older generation, and that attitude has changed and the number who think that way is reduced. Manchin is indeed in trouble.

Manchin should have switched parties when he had the chance.

Had he done that a while back we’d have a Republican majority. He could have become independent and caucused with Republicans. I think leadership in House and Senate should be scheming to do this. Thank about it, one or two would give Republicans the majority—that is if they wanted it.

That’s what happens when you sell out your voters.

Manchin should have switched parties when he had the chance.“

It was the obvious move especially when it would have given the GOP the Senate. Had he done it he would have a lock on re-election. I can think he got a ton of money to stay with the rats.

Manchin should have switched parties when he had the chance.

Respectfully, one suspects that Manchin is a major poser, a lockstep Dem who fakes to the right.

If he runs as an indy in 24, he will be the new Perot, taking disaffected GOPer votes from Trump, and guaranteeing a Dem win.

DeSantis’ supporters are sad that Manchin may lose and the GOP gain a Senate seat? How does that make any sense? What evidence do you have that DeSantis supporters are opposed to the GOP gaining seats in the Senate?

I wish that were the case, I really do.

Low info voters (Dems, esp) vote on feelings, intuition, and appearance. As far as feelings, they are especially motivated by fear, greed, and dislike for opposing candidates.

They don't know much about history. Economy, heightened risk of global conflicts, govt agency over-reach, etc. are foreign topics well beyond their interest or ken.

They are easily steered, they will hear about porn star hush money a hundred times a day, and they vote.
