I have said for months that Ron DeSantis is never going to get the support of Democrats and independents in Rust Belt states that were instrumental in Trump's 2016 victory. He won't lose West Virginia, but I don't envision any scenario where he wins Pennsylvania, Michigan or Wisconsin.
Simply put, when you can have Trump, why are you going to vote for a carbon copy?
On policy Desantis brings nothing new to the table.
His only selling point was “I can beat Biden, Trump can’t”.
Now that even the left wing polling shows Trump beating Biden the only differentiator that can be sold is gone.
Trumps base isn’t abandoning him, isn’t going to stay home, isn’t going to vote for someone else when Trump is on the ballot, and is over 50% of the primary voters.
Trump haters may not like it and may delude themselves into believing that is not the case, but the math is not there for anyone other than Trump to be the nominee.
