I still don’t like the idea. Sounds sort of symbolic anyways. However, as a hard and unbendable rule, US service men should not be under command of any other nation or organization, particularly the UN. (Even though the UN has nothing to do with this article.)

However, as a hard and unbendable rule, US service men should not be under command of any other nation or organization The military of NATO is always commanded by an American Four-Star General/Admiral. That Flag Officer is "dual hatted" as Supreme Allied Commander Europe (NATO) and Commander United States European Command (US). While conducting NATO operations, US forces are still accountable to an American General.
