I just hope that trump assembles a very solid legal defense team.
I’ve left an analysis here several times for what it’s worth
The big supposed admission by trump that leads off the indictment is not an admission that he never declassified the documents.
He tells the journalist not to come too close to the document because the information in it is still secret. Therefore he did not try to hand it to the journalist for reading at least as best we can tell.
And he States clearly that when he was president he could declassify this but he cannot declassify it any longer and that the information is still secret.
The only logical interpretation of his remarks is that he cannot declassify it for the purpose of showing it to the journalist because the information in the document is still secret, however trump has it in his possession because he declares a fighter by bringing it with him when he left the White House.
If you think that’s a technical reading of his words, keep in mind they are trying to convict him using his words. So on this one they have to live and die based on what he actually said.
Trump is not an attorney and what he said to the journalist made absolute sense. He was holding something that he had a right to bring with him but which he did not have the ability to hand over to the journalist directly.

Exactly.
Good analysis from what we know so far.(Which isn’t much)
>> He was holding something that he had a right to bring with him
Supposedly, or possibly figuratively to underscore whatever point he was hoping to make.
The audio quotes I’ve seen are 100% benign.
Thanks for this.
