The search and rescue operation for the lost OceanGate submersible that took five men down to visit the Titanic wreck remains ongoing, but life support systems are running out. The seacraft was reported missing Sunday. The Titan is the only five-man submarine in the world that can make the 12,500-foot journey to the wreck. It’s a rich man’s game since the cost to participate in this vacation expedition is prohibitive to most people. The price is $250,000 per head. There are concerns that the Titan craft has become stuck in the wreckage. There’s no way to contact the passengers or crew. Hamish Hardin, a British billionaire among the missing, texted a friend about the weather conditions before he vanished underneath the ocean. One person who partook in this adventure and survived was Mike Reiss, a producer, and writer for The Simpsons. He recollected how the waiver mentioned “death” three times on the first page (via NY Post):

Some places and things are best left alone.
I believe that’s in the release I signed when I had knee surgery. There is an ever so slight chance you may not come out of the anesthesia.
They had a guy on who went on the last one and had a great time.

Couldn’t pay me that or any amount to ride that death trap.
It would be an interesting adventure, but I would not be able to get past the claustrophobia, or the 250 grand!
By it’s very nature adventure means risk, the more risk the more adventure.
Dumb money is still flying around.

Even when they find it, there can be no rescue.
Waivers are not that unusual. When you rent skis at a ski slope the rental agreement has DEATH in bold on the first page.
You’d never get my claustrophobic ass inside one of those things.
Waivers for surgery have that same wording and I’ve signed 3 of them so far without hesitation. You know not the hour of your death, these five could have gotten hit by a bus, you never know.
They probably forgot to bring gerbil food and lost propulsion
Yeah I would be happy with a spacious submarine ride at much more shallow depths around tropical fish and all. Going really deep to see the rusting hulk of a famous wreck with the much higher risks doesn’t appeal to me. Keep me above where the sun is still lighting the water.
So the submersible craft is about as “unsinkable” as the Titanic?
Who is signing up to be on the one to view the one that went to see the Titanic?
