Key sites in America’s vast missile defense system network are plagued by seawater corrosion, inadequate running water in the bathrooms, poor heating and air conditioning, a lack of storage facilities and other problems, a government watchdog said, pointing to shortfalls in the system at a crucial moment for U.S. national security.
The new report from the Government Accountability Office paints a troubling picture of the country’s missile defense system, or MDS, an array of satellites, radars and other tools designed to identify, track and potentially destroy missiles fired at U.S. or allied targets. The health of the MDS is a top priority in Washington and deep inside the Pentagon, particularly as a rising China makes massive investments in its own military and appears intent on developing capabilities that could strike the U.S. or its partners.
Compounding the problem, the congressional watchdog agency said, was that it was unclear who was in charge of making things right.
Broadly speaking, the GAO said, the Pentagon “has not identified a specific entity assigned with responsibilities for overseeing the sustainment of MDS.

Planned negligence. Its deliberate.
Someone needs more money from the US Taxpayer and is willing to write a press release to get it.
Are there no Technical Orders?
Is there no Sustainment contract?
What about the elephant in the room?
The slow rot of the US continues.
Doesn’t matter. Trumps fault.
Could this just be disinformation so China and Russia would think we aren’t prepared?
That’s what I would do if I were tasked with giving out statements to the public.
I hope I’m not wrong.
Aren’t base commanders responsible for readiness of their commands?
It’s utter BS.
I know, I know, let’s get some Chinese companies in there to do the maintenance. I hear they are aggressive bidders for the work.

V.A.F.B., CA never had a problem dealing with salt air environment for all of the missile systems they've hosted over the decades.
Maybe they should be looking for corruption instead of corrosion
Six US Air Force employees fired for failing to keep nuclear weapons stockpile secure

Six US Air Force personnel were fired for failing to ensure the safety and security of the country’s nuclear stockpile.
Two commanders and four subordinates were relieved of duty at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota after their units failed an inspection, according to CNN.
The base houses strategic bombers and missile silos, two branches of America’s “nuclear triad” military structure. Both Commanders were part of the 5th Mission Support Group and the 5th Logistics Readiness Squadron.
The news organisation says that the security inspection is a pass/fail test and that the results are classified. There is no suggestion that the inspection failure had anything to do with the actual handling of the nuclear weapons themselves, said CNN.
Colonel Brus Vidal, director of public affairs at the Air Force Global Strike Command, refused to confirm the exact nature of the failed test.
“We have deliberate and disciplined inspection protocols and we expect 100 per cent compliance,” Col Vidal told CNN. “Anything less than 100 per cent compliance is unacceptable. It’s that important to us.”
Air Force Global Strike Command said in a statement that the two commanders had been relieved of duty “due to a loss of confidence in their ability to complete their assigned duties.”

No Air Conditioning, Parts Stashed in Tents: Report Dings US Missile Defense
WHOA !!!
I was concerned at first - I thought perhaps someone at a missile site had been misgendered or used a non-preferred pronoun.
But it’s just about shoddy maintenance of critical defense missile systems so no big deal.

“Watchdog finds corrosion, upkeep woes at key U.S. missile defense sites”
Take that, Putin!!!! Our rust-buckets are ready for World War 3, so there!
We have plenty of money to buy stuff for Ukraine, though! Woo-hoo!
Why the huge defense budget?
