You're more likely to live the American dream in Germany, Denmark, or Australia
Business insider ^ | 22nd June 2023 | Matt Turner

The American dream promises upward mobility.

But a child born in poverty in America is more likely to face poverty in adulthood than in many Western countries.

The American Dream might look a little different for everyone. But at its heart, it promises upward mobility, the opportunity to attain success no matter what situation you might be born into.

Recent research shows that's more likely to happen in Denmark, Germany, Australia, and the UK.

In a recent paper titled The Intergenerational Persistence of Poverty in High-Income Countries, https://osf.io/tb3qz academics at Bocconi University and Rockwool Foundation and Stockholm University explored how poverty persists across generations in multiple countries.

Their finding: "Intergenerational poverty in the U.S. is four times stronger than in Denmark and Germany, and twice as strong as in Australia and the UK."

.. researchers found this difference between countries has little to do with differences in quality of education, nor is it based on racial discrimination or location, with the persistence of poverty in the US high across racial and geographic lines.

Instead, the researchers find that the persistence of poverty is strongly connected to tax rates and what they call transfer insurance effects, which can be considered as akin to a social safety net.

"The U.S. is the archetype of a liberal and residualist welfare state, featuring stratified access to higher education and employment, strong earnings returns to higher education, and a comparatively weak welfare state to insure against risks in adulthood," the researchers said.

Even more meaningful in the US is what the researchers call a "residual poverty penalty," or the scars that a childhood in poverty can leave on an individual. The researchers found that "exposure to childhood poverty is particularly severe in the US," citing eg less access to quality healthcare among low-income US residents.

Those nations aren’t going to be viable either for long.

It’s the times we live in, and this situation is failing.

No nations are going to be free from the issues we’re
facing.

Nope, you’re not. More authoritarian, less guaranteed rights, more overt socialism, way less self defense rights, libs in control and just getting worse. Only benefits to denmark and germany are better divorce and parenting rights for men.

I would disagree that “are going to be free from the issues we’re facing”

The USA’s issues are different from Denmark’s or Germany’s.

One clear way that the USA leads those two is the big win. If you are an entrepreneur or have an idea for something new, then the only place is the USA.

It is a winner-takes-all.

That has positives and, as seen in the article, negatives.

I think you’re reasoned to bring up some of those issues.

What I am worried about is the way our schools are being
used to corrupt future generations. And I’ll tell you,
I don’t think we’ve seen anything yet.

We’re headed for Sodom and Gomorrah territory.

I saw a thread on Instagram the other days, where the
premise was lofted to place a native American as
president, essentially absent any other considerations.
It was a wild idea, but the strange thing is, there were
a lot of people on board.

Folks have just lost the ability to reason.

We are nearing anarchy > IMO. You couple things that
are taking place today, and I don’t see a real future
for the US. China is taking over globally through
it’s “belt and road” initiative. (did I get that right)

We don’t even seem to be on the playing board what
with Biden coasting through each day and Obama’s
programs set to defeat the US in every quarter.

If the US goes, there will be a domino effect that
is just going to turn this world over to the dark
side.

The only wild card is China. Is it in as good a
position as it thinks it is? It has some dire things
coming along population and aging wise.

Some think that China’s populace is about to crater.

They’re talking in terms of a 50% loss of population
over the next 30 or so years.

I once had a lot of respect for Australia. Then COVID came
along and the governments just went wing-nut on the populace.

I’m not convinced Australia is as solid a free state as we
might like to think.

Not sure we are either what with the digital dollar and
FedNow coming along.

“I once had a lot of respect for Australia. Then COVID came

My take is that the New Zealand and Australian populations were willing to go along and wanted the C19 vaxxxes. Their populations are still 85-90% white. Here in America we have large black and Hispanic minorities who dodged the vaxxxes. Same as I did. Only stupid white people comply with stupid injections

I was talking to an Israeli immigrant friend the other day. I figured he got the C19 vaxxx. But he said never. He did not comply with the drumbeat injection propaganda on TV

Total BS

There’s a saying that “in Germany, everyone is equally poor.”

I have heard that several times by both expats and German citizens.

The underlying theme of this article is complete B.S.

By a wide margin, the biggest reasons the U.S. lags other countries in many socioeconomic indicators are cultural. That explains our higher crime rates, lower life expectancy, high rates of social pathologies, and limited economic mobility. It also doesn’t help that we are so wealthy overall — because in purely financial terms there isn’t much of a downside to being a lazy, unproductive bum anymore.

I don’t see how one can live the “American Dream” in any of those countries.

The local totalitarians won’t permit it.

Australians have one of the highest C19 vaxxxxx rates along with New Zealand. They are remote convict islands. Jacinda of NZ looks brain damaged
(Their past prime Minister)

Clutch Martin There’s a saying that “in Germany, everyone is equally poor.”

I haven't heard that one.

I have heard that said about life in East Germany and basically the entire Soviet bloc. Not heard it about present day Germany though

1st world countries with protective import tariffs ( Every G-7 nation except the USA ) all seem to have a vibrant productive blue coller workforce and a large middle class.

--- "You're more likely to live the American dream in Germany, Denmark, or Australia"

The underlying premise seems wrong. One may live a "dream" wherever one is, within reason. Not of course North Korea and the like. But whether in one of the countries in the article or another, being at liberty and being fiscally sensible are available to those who don't buy into the modern myths. Have no debt. Save. Never run in the direction of a stampede of lemmings. Hold to dreams when the media and politics say you are guilty of this or that, like racism and all the clever 'phobias. Comport yourself with dignity, and choose your friends wisely. Believe in God and not the State.
