It’s never been clearer why the Second Amendment exists. The founders couldn’t have made it any clearer in their subsequent writings, as well as in the Declaration of Independence. Placing one of the most important tools in the American government toolbox off limits as “unthinkable” ensures the eventual destruction of America. The reason the Second was added, aside from providing for the mutual defense, was to ensure that every other element of our constitutional system could continue to operate as intended. Without the threat of force always hovering in the background, the founders knew that it would only be a matter of time before craven evil men would corrupt the system and plunge the country back into bondage under a tyrannical government. It is IMPOSSIBLE to preserve our God-given rights and our constitutional republic without a credible and ever-present threat of force if the government should become tyrannical. To believe otherwise is to believe and trust in the inherent goodness of men, which is exactly opposite the Biblical truth and simple common sense that is the foundation of the checks and balances in our system; elements that are intended to frustrate the designs of inherently sinful and evil men.
Somewhere along the line this notion that it was unthinkable to remind the government that we will use force if necessary to keep them in line took root. But without it there is no way in the long run to preserve America’s principles and freedoms, because evil never sleeps and never stops trying to subjugate the people. We are up to our necks in the present day with evidence of this truth.
