What Is the DeSantis Strategy?
Townhall ^ | June 22, 2023 | Kurt Schlichter

Posted on 06/23/2023 11:47:36 AM PDT by chickenlips

The answer is, “How the hell would I know?” – the governor runs the tightest ship in the business, and not only do his peeps not leak, but you’ll never catch him lying on top of his covers in a robe, hair in curlers and kicking his painted toenails with the telephone receiver up to his ear calling up Maggie Haberman and asking “Whatchya doin’?”

But the fact that Team Heavy D is not out there briefing the world on its strategy does not mean he doesn’t have one. The Trump team wants you to think that the RDS campaign is in chaos because the guy who was president is in the lead, pretty substantially, over six months before the first vote gets cast. But then, if pre-election year polls were particularly predictive, we would have had President Jeb! And Merrick Garland now would be on SCOTUS explaining that free speech isn’t free and the right to keep and bear arms actually refer only to the kind of guns you pump at the gym instead of giving “Get Out of Jail Free” cards to the junkie kids of corrupt pols.

Trump’s strategy is crystal clear – inevitability with a dollop of “and that will show them.” How winning the primary only to lose another general election – recent polls showing the general race in the key battleground states are absolutely brutal to the former prezzy – remains unclear to those of us to whom winning involves victory instead of glorious defeat.

I guess Schlichter is a globalist, never-Trump, RINO now?

Queue up the only-Trump venom spitting.

My two cents... DeSantis knows there's a possibility that they finally "get Trump" by putting him in jail or worse, so he's in the race to be the backup candidate.

If Trump is not jailed (or worse), I think GOP voters want a re-match and will get one. DeSantis is young and if he doesn't make any major missteps, he should be the front-runner in 2028.

I think the prime strategy is to get well known across the country now so he has a chance at getting the nomination in 2028

Shitler is a doctrinaire libertarian. He is no different than any of the other establishment people who hated Trump until he won. They pretended to support him while he was in office, but they are desperate to put anyone in to replace him.

But their time is over. Republican voters are not going back to this pathetic anti-government agenda. We want policies that help us individually and as a nation. The establishment always supported tax breaks and stimulus for their donors, while cutting things for the people. We’re done with that. No more welfare for billionaires.

DeSantis is terrible at retail politics and that’s why they have him out there doing.

This isn’t a normal campaign. Trump people are not likely to move off him. I am a big critic of his activities going into and since the 2020 election but he has my support more than any other candidate. That doesn’t mean I’ll vote for him on Super Tuesday or whenever but what was done to him with the Russia Hoax, how MAGA and deplorables have been maligned and lied about, I feel the situation needs to be avenged. I am deeply concerned about a nominee Trump being able to win the general, however. And we have to win.

I don’t see DeSantis as being able to emerge as a winning candidate either even if I didn’t disagree with some of his strident actions in FL. His messaging is bad and he’s uninspiring. I feel like I am listening to yet another lawyer politician who needs to be parsed like Bill Clinton. No thank you.

Christie is toast. Asa too. I am keeping an eye on some others to see if they might break away from the pack. I think it’s sad they are so afraid of Tim Scott just being in the race as a black Republican they have wheeled out Obama to attack him.

They have to remove anyone to the right of Mitch McConnell from the GOP, so Trump, McCarthy, McConnell, the RINOs, the media, and MSNBC are all on the same side against DeSants=is and the others. He has no chance with the entire left stacked against him.

Why are you so interested in rewarding the GOPe scumbags for their betrayals?

I want President Trump because I trust him and I also want to punish the GOP snakes. The GOPe meat puppet DeSantis can foad.

The Money Quote
"The Trump team wants you to think that the RDS campaign is in chaos because the guy who was president is in the lead, pretty substantially, over six months before the first vote gets cast."

Something I have been pointing out for some time now. When I see a story about the GOP Primary that leans on Polling numbers, I know 1. A Reporter Needed a story, 2. I put it in File 13 where it belongs.
Now maybe Trump does win. I would not bet more than $2.00 that he won't. Point is No one knows. Talk to me about Polls next Nov. Until then they are meaningless.

He has already made the major misstep that will not allow me to vote for him in 2028.   The fool didn't support President Trump and endorse him for 2024.

I'm in basic agreement with you. Polls are worthless until after the final election.

This is an irrelevant work of fiction by Kurt Schlichter - nothing more. All of his predictions will ultimately be disproven, but he’s free to delude himself in the mean time.

DeSantis has been great on anti-woke, anti-trans, anti-groomer - but those issues are of no importance to the "donor community".

I'm not saying they aren't important - they are VERY important.

But they have been planning a recapture of the GOP for a long time. "Donors" aren't blue or red - they represent, and in some cases are, the people who run the world.

And their ideal situation is two parties with two candidates, and not having to worry about who wins, because both parties and both candidates AGREE on the "donor community" fundamentals.

If all the woke, all the groomers, all the tranissaries were put in gas chambers tomorrow, the "donor community" would be fine with that.

What they are NOT fine with is Trump, Tulsi Gabbard, RFK jr, and Tucker Carlson burning down their control structures and putting them on planes so they can go screw up some other country.

And what are the "donor community" fundamentals?

1) Open borders
2) A global open market in labor
3) Offshoring productive industries
4) Financialization of the economy
5)) Severing the medium of exchange function of money from the store of value function.
6) Usury as the main engine of consumption.
7) Denying the people their natural, healthy love of their nation
8) Overseas wars on behalf of alien peoples without recompense for our sacrifice.
9) Forced "diversity" with its attendent decline in standards and inevitably accompanying violence.

DeSantis/Scott vs. Newsom/Abrams. From the "donor community" POV, it's a win-win.

Mine is similar: DeSantis is banking on unforeseen but not unlikely changes in the perception of candidates before the primary.

Schlichter was always a globalist stooge. On his own website he cites his tour of duty in Kosovo as part of his military background.

No patriotic American nationalist would ever be proud of his role in that disgraceful farce.

I like this arrogant BS: “The Trump team wants you to think.” How the hell does this guy know what the Trump team wants or thinks? Is he a mind reader? Clairvoyant? Obviously the smartest person in the room. He is just another click vampire with his fangs stuck in the neck of the people silly enough to listen to him.

He (DeSantis) puts wins on the board – that’s his braggadocio. He also shows a military man’s eye for logistics – the big story in Florida is that it went from a Dem majority to a 500K GOP majority, and that takes organization.

What's odd is Trump's team has pulled back on the anti-DeSantis ads in Florida... they're using the spaces to attack Biden. Trump's strongest ticket is Trump/DeSantis - that's the win. And Kurt's right - no one leaks in the DeSantis team - and his strategy can only be deduced from his actions. The 50 illegals to Martha's Vineyard is an example of a military mind - and it worked as planned. That's the kind of stuff no one can see coming from team DeSantis.
