“@RaheemKassam has thoughts on why DeSantis keeps dropping in the polls: “Being anti-woke is just... the bottom rung of the ladder of conservatism. You don’t get to be celebrated because you’re not a communist and not a satanist.” (Video)

DeSantis Campaign Strategy:

1. Position yourself as the more well-behaved version of Trump. Sort of a Trump without balls.
2. Pass legislation to get cred with the major issues.
3. Leverage your connections and relationships with the GOPe to raise money.
4. Convince MAGA voters you are better than the original.
5. Steadily decline in the polls.
6. Withdraw from the race when it is obvious you will not win.
7. Keep windfall of unspent campaign funds.

The DeSantis strategy is to be exactly like Trump while trying to appear as different from him as he possibly can.

Dunno what polls you’re reading Kurt. The polls I’ve seen say the exact opposite.

Exactly like Trump? You mean like donating $100k to the Clinton Foundation?

You’re still focused on the left-right divide. The more important divide is the Pro-America/Globalist divide. While Republicans were focusing on conservative purity (with little to show for it, BTW) we were losing our country. What is the conservative position on the CCP buying up American companies, American farmland, and controlling our supply chains? Conservatives never had a word to say on the topic before Trump emerged on the scene. Even now, anti-Trump conservative purists try to ignore the issue as much as they can unless circumstances force them to offer a tepid agreement with Trump’s position.

We are now in a post-Constitutional era. and you’re supporting DeSantis because he’s more conservative than Trump? What does that even mean? He gives lip-service to conservative issues, more than Trump does? He quotes the Bible and attends church more than Trump?

In terms of actual policy Trump has done more on conservative issues than any other Republican politician in 50 years. Ron has had success on conservative issues in Florida, but much of that came by riding Trump’s coattails. The abortion bill he signed would never have been passed if Trump hadn’t fought to change the make-up of the Supreme Court. Regarding the rest, he benefitted from things that many other governors don’t have, e.g. a friendly state legislature and judiciary.

What Is the DeSantis Strategy?

Can’t say.

I am still trying to figure out what Jeb’s strategy was.

He (DeSantis) puts wins on the board – that’s his braggadocio. He also shows a military man’s eye for logistics – the big story in Florida is that it went from a Dem majority to a 500K GOP majority, and that takes organization.

What's odd is Trump's team has pulled back on many of their anti-DeSantis ads in Florida... they're using the spaces to attack Biden. Trump's strongest ticket is Trump/DeSantis - that's the win and could be the reason for the change.

And Kurt's right - no one leaks from the DeSantis team - his strategy can only be deduced from his actions. Florida can be quirky. I remember some years back a friend asking me to look at a picture of a Florida Sheriff and his chiefs (from one of our largest cities) and asked if I saw something unusual. I looked and nothing came to mind. All normal. Then he said 'How tall am I?' and I looked at the picture again and sure 'nuff - all the men in the picture were 6 feet 3 inches or taller. That was odd. Turned out the new Sheriff had chosen his top people from the police basketball team. They were a very cohesive strong fast team. Florida quirky.

DeSantis has that same style of quirky.

The 50 illegals to Martha's Vineyard is an example of a military maneuver - and it worked as planned. DeSantis followed up that move with rumors he was sending another group up and had reporters hanging out at airports for days... That's the kind of stuff no one can see coming... unless you look a few times and are given some hints.

Friday fun thread!

Unsurprisingly, Kurt Schlichter has a rather unique perspective on the current GOP candidates for the next Presidential election.

Anyone thinking right now is a time to choose candidates doesn’t have much to do with their time.

Good points, all. Of course, this is still waaay too early in the race, something a lot of folks seem to lose sight of. As politics go, and eternity. A lot can happen in an eternity.

And who knows? We may well end up with a Trump/DeSantis ticket in the long run. Politics... Wouldn't that be a hoot.

So you have no opinion on the matter? When do you wake your brain up and start considering who you’re going to vote for?

I think the trashing of DeSantis is unnecessary and self destructive towards the efforts to get rid of Biden. I think it's very possible the Dems will find a way to a way to stop Trump from running.

As Joe Biden said, ""We just have to demonstrate that he will not take power. I'm making sure he, under legitimate efforts of our Constitution, he does not become the next President again."

We can scoff at the idea, or we can rage at the unconstitutionality if they do it, but short of armed revolution - who will stop them? Our half-trannie, half-brony military leadership? The feckless Supreme Court? The congressional Republicans? The piss-bucket media boys? The UN?

At some point, we may need DeSantis. Or the candidate could be Christie if you'd rather.

Can you imagine the reaction on Free Republic if we had a Trump-DeSantis ticket???

Considering some of the hatred of DeSantis expressed on this site I wonder what those Trump supporters would think?

This touches on the issues of running mates. What if Trump chooses a running mate who is not acceptable to people here?

In order to run in 2028, DeSantis needs money and contacts that candidates always create the campaign time or two before. I see DeSantis as serious about 2028 so he is pushing 2024 to get those war contacts and fill his warchest. I would easily welcome a Trump/DeSantis ticket.

“What Is the DeSantis Strategy?”

Make sure that Trump loses, at any cost (including a Biden re-election), and then get a well-paying job for CNN.

Tim Scott is owned by Mitch McConnell for pity’s sake. He wanted us to support Lisa Murkowski.

DeSantis doesn’t leak because he is backed by globalist RINOs. He talks out of both sides of his mouth.
