Germany: Far-right AfD wins first governing post

For the first time in Germany, the AfD has won a district council election, administrators announced on Sunday.

Voters in the central German town of Sonneberg elected AfD candidate Robert Sesselmann at the expense of incumbent district administrator Jürgen Köpper of the CDU.

In the runoff election in the Thuringian district of Sonneberg, Sesselmann won 52.8% of the vote, earning him the necessary absolute majority, according to election officials.

The area of some 57,000 people is one of the smallest districts in Germany. Still, the AfD victory is a major breakthrough for the far-right party, which mainstream parties have refused to cooperate with in coalition agreements.

The AfD's leader in Thuringia, Björn Höcke, welcomed the win and said it demonstrates the party's recent momentum.

"And then we'll prepare for the state elections in the east, where we can really create a political earthquake," he said, referring to state parliament elections in the eastern states of Saxony, Thuringia and Brandenburg.

What makes AfD "far right"?

They don't believe in open borders or something like that?

OTOH, when the "far left" wins elections, the enemedia chatters about them being "progressive."

What's so progressive about fascist feudalism?

It’s when you “progress” away from the rule of law and common sense.

If Europe doesn’t wake up soon, they’ll be a minority within their own nations.

Merkel reversed a free and fair election she didn’t like the results of in Leipzig (if I recall correctly) and forced a new election to get the candidate she wanted. Let’s see if Shultz is as big of a tyrant as that European hating KGB stasi plant Merkel.

What makes AfD "far right"?

Oh that's simple. They disagree with the Establishment. That's all it takes to be....scare quotes...."far right" over there. Their media is even worse than the Corporate Media in the US.

“What makes AfD “far right”?”

Basically they’re against Unlimited Immigration and World War 3 - both of which the Ukraine Cheerleaders DESPERATELY want.

Herr Merkel declared AfD verboten and this has thus far stuck.

The actual far right party of Germany is the National Democratic Party (now renamed the Homeland Party). Alternative is merely a populist-right party.

Alternative is a member of the “Identity and Democracy” parliamentary group in the EU, along with the Lega of Italy and National Rally of France and other parties, several of them currently or formerly serve as members of governing coalitions.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Identity_and_Democracy

These parties generally oppose the EU becoming a superstate, and instead want the EU to be a confederation of sovereign nations.

These parties also want to control immigration, and emphasize learning the national language and becoming self-supporting. Many members of AfD - including parliamentarians - are themselves immigrants. They are concerned about the ability of their nations to provide society security to its citizens, when so many immigrants require more support than they pay in taxes.

This is Germany. Not sure how familiar you are with 20th century German history but no, these folks aren't conservative in any sense.

What precisely are the AFD policies or proposals that you characterize as not conservative?

Before WWII the nazis and the communists were both considered by americans to be leftists parties. the communists were further left than the nazis. but they were both considered to be two peas in a pod.

This changed during the McCarthy period when a Frankfurt School writer characterized the nazis as rightists or conservatives. The NY Times picked up the reference and echoed that nazis were conservatives.

That set the mold. For decades no self respecting jew could be republican or conservative—as that associated them with nazis.

But it was all a language game.

AfD believes the German nation and people deserve to exist, which automatically classifies them as Nazis.

The real headline here is that an “Anti-Ukraine War Party” has won an election in Germany.

I doubt that the AFD proposes anything as crazy as Angela Merkel’s immigration policies. It seems to some people that German feelings of guilt over NAZI crimes may lie behind their lengthy acquiescence to Merkel’s suicidal policies.

Re: "If Europe doesn't wake up soon, they'll be a minority within their own nations."

Europe is still miles behind the USA on the road to ethnic suicide.

Every major European nation is at least 80% white European, and many of the wealthy smaller countries are above 90%.

According to the USA 2020 Census, America is 58.9% non-Hispanic white.

After two and a half years of Biden Open Borders, that number is close to 58% white today.
