Current heatwave across US south made five times more likely by climate crisis

The record heatwave roiling parts of Texas, Louisiana and Mexico was made at least five times more likely due to human-caused climate change, scientists have found, marking the latest in a series of recent extreme “heat dome” events that have scorched various parts of the world.

The heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and oceans by the burning of fossil fuels made the extreme heatwave at least five times more likely, according to a recent analysis by Climate Central, a climate science non-profit. The punishing heat, which is forecast to linger further throughout the week in Texas, is creating “stressful conditions for millions of people”, according to Andrew Pershing, vice-president for science at Climate Central.

Speaking to the Guardian on Monday, Andrew Dessler, a climate scientist at Texas A&M University said the university’s campus at College Station has had a string of days above 37C (100F), when it usually doesn’t hit such peaks until August. “It’s depressing to think we’re not even in July and we are getting this sort of heat,” he said. “When it’s this hot you are a prisoner in your own house, you are a prisoner to air conditioning.”

I remember my mom telling me how fricking hot it was when she got married in Albany, GA in July of 1943 before A/C. Amazing how the body acclimates. We’d all be fainting of heat stroke these days.

Friend from Georgia informed me yesterday, that the heat preseently in his area of George, usually occurs a few weeks earlier - in May. No cause for alarm.

Because Texas, Louisiana and Mexico have always had cooler, moderate summer temperatures. People in the north have always gone there to get relief from the heat in summer months.

This is another example of gross fear mongering in the media.

Climate scientists agree that the likelihood of increase by factors which increase are between 6.5 and 4.5,

Or, an increase of 1.2 to 4.3, over time,

which would then be increased by a factor of no more than two, compounded over the time of the increase.

THAT's what increases the likelihood of the climate increase of change,

NOT the other way around.

The only catastrophe climate change has caused is the bilking of American taxpayers in the trillions.

Summer arrives along with the expected stories that it is going to be hotter than ever once again. All total bull-hockey.

“Five times worse”, they say! They said the same last year, the year before, and even twenty years ago. Their predictions never come true but they just change the dates and recycle the same stories again year after year.
