Putin paid $1 billion to Wagner Group before mutiny

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday said Moscow had paid the Wagner Group around $1 billion over the past year

Putin's admission of funding the mercenary group follows Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin's weekend rebellion against Russia. The mercenary boss claimed Russia's military had killed about 30 Wagner troops in a missile strike, and he ordered his men to march on Moscow. The brief mutiny ended after peace was brokered on the agreement that Kremlin charges would be dropped against Prigozhin if he agreed to go into exile in Belarus.

Does Wagner take rubles or is payment required in U.S. dollars?

Even with the t-shirt, the canvas tote bag, the event membership discount card and the monthly Wagner Life magazine it doesn’t seem like it was worth it.

Now, with Belarus in the picture, all that has changed too.

There is an estimated 30,000 Wagner fighters in Ukraine. Assuming Prigozhin and his cronies don’t get any “ commission”, that $1 billion would pay $3,333 per mercenary. But for how long?

Does that mean Vlad pays his mercenaries in U.S. dollars?

$1 billion doesn’t buy loyalty if you betray the troops

They are mercenaries. And they have been working for Russia for years.

A billion over that period sounds light

I keep seeing this number bandied about.

It is deep red meat conspiracy Bullshit at its best. Accounting errors in the transfer of equipment is not pallets of cash. Only someone who can’t balance their own checkbook would believe that story.

Right, our state department is so transparent in their accounting, only a fool would believe they tell the truth.

Putin’s admission of funding the mercenary group Wagner is quite incredible!

For years Putin was mocking anyone as a conspiracy theorist if he dared to pretend Russia was funding Wagner!

Putin also mocked everyone who said that Russia was on the verge of invading Ukraine as a hysterical warmonger.
Well.. the day after, they invaded.

Putin lies like a “lying-factory” as soon as it emits a sound.

Are you serious, or being sarcastic? Of course Moscow is paying Wagner, they are mercenaries. Who else would be paying them?

Yes everyone knew of course!
But it’s the first time Putin admitted doing this officially and publicly! THAT is what’s new!

RE: You are off by a factor of ten.

Sorry, typo: $33,333 PER MERCENARY ( That’s assuming Prigozhin and company don’t get their cut). But the question still remains — for how long will each mercenary have to serve?
