“restorative justice” and “social justice” = NO JUSTICE
I taught for decades in an urban public high school. Now, let’s assume that there’s an altercation in the hallway. Some bully is shoving around a little kid. Teachers and security break it up. Then what?
Old days: The bully is suspended from school. Maybe for three days. Maybe for five. And if the little kid is hurt (and if the principal has guts), the school police are called. Charges are filed.
After 2005 or so: “Restorative justice” kicks in. Yes, that’s the actual phrase they use. No one is suspended. No one calls the police. Instead the bully and the victim meet with a social worker in the school to discuss their feelings.
Victim remains terrified. Bully laughs. Bully also enjoys the attention.
This sort of thing fails on every level. But it keeps the suspension rates down. So the administration loves it.

That’s when if you kill someone, all you have to do is pay the weregeld and you get away scot free.
