Michelle Obama speaks about how affirmative action personally affected her college life
Politico ^ | 6/29/2023 | Lucy Hodgman

Former first lady Michelle Obama spoke out about the Supreme Court’s Thursday ruling against affirmative action, recalling her own struggle (snip)

“So often, we just accept that money, power, and privilege are perfectly justifiable forms of affirmative action, while kids growing up like I did are expected to compete when the ground is anything but level,” Michelle Obama wrote in her statement. “So today, my heart breaks for any young person out there who’s wondering what their future holds — and what kinds of chances will be open to them.” (snip)

The former first lady recalled her experience as one of the few Black students on campus during her undergraduate years at Princeton University, explaining that she sometimes questioned if people assumed she had only been accepted because of affirmative action policies. But over time, she said, she and other students of color showed that they, too, belonged in elite academic environments. While the policy of affirmative action “wasn’t perfect,” she wrote, it helped provide “new ladders of opportunity for those who, throughout our history, have too often been denied a chance to show how fast they can climb.”

The court’s gutting of affirmative action programs, Michelle Obama wrote, was a reminder of not only the importance of policies that reflect principles of equity and fairness, but also the importance of making “those values real in all of our schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods.”

Barack Obama echoed this sentiment in a briefer statement, writing that while the policy of affirmative action had its flaws, “it allowed generations of students like Michelle and me to prove we belonged.”

“Now it’s up to all of us to give young people the opportunities they deserve  —  and help students everywhere benefit from new perspectives,” the former president wrote.

Now we know why she lost her law license. She just couldn’t hack it.

Really?

Read Ms. Obama's senior thesis, it's online.

Does she know embarrassment?

Yes, she failed the bar exam.
As did Hillary.
As did Kamala.

It’s pretty much a prerequisite to be honcho in the Dem party.

She is a good example of the problem with affirmative action in education systems...

A low-IQ moron, not even qualified for either janitorial work or dressing up as Ronald McDonald at McDonalds, gets a free ride into Princeton University...

After two years at a large Chicago law firm, she was told she should find a other job, so she got one where she worked for a hospital. Her primary function was to get welfare patients transferred to other hospitals.

Reads similar to Dr Jill (heckuva physician!) Biden’s book report on a junior college in Delaware submitted (and accepted!) as her doctoral dissertation.

“She likes free handouts for black grifters such as herself”

How much was that hospital paying her for no particular reason when Obama was a Senator?

I do not remember to well, but yes, he was the main member of the Chicago Democratic machine. So that makes him civil servant, I guess.
But also well off, well connected guy. The machine rewarded their members well.

That she was AND she went to a special MAGNET SCHOOL, then on to Princeton, and then on to Harvard Law, after which, she got a job at a prestigious WHITE SHOE law firm!

Talk about BLACK PRIVILEGE!

BigMike did not say that. He actually said,
Back in college, I was one of the few Black students on my campus, and I was proud of getting into such a respected school. I knew I’d worked hard for it. But still, I sometimes wondered if people thought I got there because of affirmative action. It was a shadow that students like me couldn’t shake, whether those doubts came from the outside or inside our own minds.
It's a plain admission of the sad consequence of "affirmative" action. If you earned it, Mike, no one would have doubted you -- especially yourself.

Not necessarily, as Christians believe tomorrow is promised to no one. Even without being a Christian, how many examples do we need of how decadent/destructive Western culture has negatively transformed the US since 60s?!?. That’s 60 years.

THIS IS THE WOMAN WHOSE COLLEGE THESIS WAS TITLED:

“WHY I HATE AMERICA”.

She ended up in The White House & has many mansions.

What can she possibly know about the other side of AA?

If you ever read her thesis from Princeton of all places, you would see that she was in fact a “pioneer”, almost a test case of this kind of lowered expectations ALREADY , decades ago. She did nothing more, and was expected to do nothing more, in that pathetic excuse for a paper, except illustrate how sensitive she was to how white people made her feel, even as she was given the widest berth imaginable, and yet, to this day, still enjoys occupying a position with no actual requirements but the airing of imaginary grievances.
