AMEN!

I was shocked when I first found out that high school students were no longer required to show up to class ON TIME.

They still rang class bells but the students took it as a suggestion, not a requirement.

Don't get me started on trying to get assignments/labs/test completed...

I recently worked on a project with a Gen-Z tech whiz who had the best technical skills I’ve seen — but the worst common sense and attention to detail. We worked on an assignment for a highway department that required us to manage and filter mapping data for a state highway network.

The guy doesn’t even work for me, but I didn’t hesitate to gently scold him when he produced a large table of data that included highway segments that showed up in the Atlantic Ocean when I mapped them.

There are numerous Gen Z lizards in my industry of real estate investing. They are ambitious, overly confident, self centered, and ruthless. They over bid on property cash buys with daddy’s money and then cross their fingers that just one of them will pay for the other mine losers. Well, now that we’re in a down turn, my realtors and hard money lenders tell me they are gone. Vanished. I got hurt, too but an the Hal Holbrook fogey character in WALL STREET; the steady player who’s still plugging away. They’ll be back when real estate is the bright, shimmery object again. Now, as per Gen Z restaurant staff - during and since Covid - I think they’re great! Far better and friendlier in this industry than my generation. The only annoyance is that most of the females chirp “Perfect!” in reply to EVERYTHING and the dudes call me “Boss”. So weird.

Seriously. My sons were born in 94 and 97. Both work their BUTTS off and make good money. We’ve been told a couple times how rare it is to find young adults like yhat. Years of teaching them to do their best at whatever they do is showing results. And as they get older and see how their peers act, they understand why we taught them this.

A buddy relayed this story to me last night. He is the 62 year old Naval veteran manager of one of the state of NH liquor stores. These are large stores similar in size to a Walgreens/CVS or larger. NH only sells liquor at through these stores.

He had a young man show up this week for a job interview. Kid was a college graduate. He was applying for a management position. Not of just one store, but managing employees over several stores. The kid showed up in a T shirt and sweat pants. His hair was all messed up. Looked like he had just rolled out of bed and through on whatever was on the floor.

Needless to say, he did not get the job.

Bottom line is that the educational establishment does a terrible job of preparing young people for employment.

Deep State's diploma mills aren't there to prepare students for productive lives.

Deep State's diploma mills are there to provide compliant employees who turn out obedient drones with cushy jobs and cadillac bennies.

The transition occured in the 90s when “Personnel” became “Human Resources” imho.

Yep, but people will deny it and claim every generation is the same. Some people cant accept the fact that it’s getting worse as it is a bad sign for America.

I would think those stores should be able to promote from within—even if the experienced employees are not college grads.

I have genZer kids and have instilled in them a good work ethic, so far it’s working out very well for them. It’s a gold mine out there for someone who puts in at least half an effort.

Yes, there are exceptions and it sounds like you raised some.

I have one on my staff and another that works elsewhere on our program and they’re both great to work with. Well-mannered, hardworking and team-oriented.

Generation Z is the youngest cohort in the American workforce, with birth years starting around 1997.

Just avoid industries that are not focused on saving the climate from change and you'll avoid them altogether.

From talking to them, they all want to save the climate change or something.

Most of that is because their DAD never showed them how or never made them help around the house. Most kids these days do not know which end of the hammer to hold because their PARENTS never taught them. It is problem.

They never had to mow the lawn. Paint the house. Change the oil in the car or tractor. Build a fence or a bird house. They never took wood shop or ANY shop classes in school. They could not install a faucet if they tried. They do not own any tools or a tool box. They take their lawn mower in to get “serviced”. They are lucky if they know where to pour the gasoline.

However, they can work wonders on a computer/smart phone that I (60 year old) will never come close to their ability.
