Florida’s new DeSantis-backed laws address immigration, guns and more

More than 200 new Florida laws take effect Saturday…

… DeSantis has taken a hard line on illegal immigration as he campaigns, saying he’ll finish the Mexican border wall his one-time supporter, Donald Trump, promised to build... he doesn’t just talk tough on illegal immigration, but he’s put in place what some critics say the harshest state law in the country…

Any company with 25 or more employees to use E-Verify to document new hires’ eligibility to work or face a loss of business license or fines of $1,000 per day per employee…

Hospitals that accept Medicaid to ask patients if they are citizens or legally in the United States and voids drivers licenses issued by other states to people in the country illegally...

Anyone legally able to own a gun to carry it concealed in public without a permit. While concealed weapons permits will still be issued, those choosing to carry without one won’t be subject to a background check or training.

Prohibits credit card companies from tracking gun and ammunition sales to prevent them potentially using the data to flag people who make large purchases.

Florida has also banned colleges from using state or federal funding for diversity, equity and inclusion programs…

Schools will be prohibited from requiring teachers and students to use pronouns that match someone’s gender identity.

Chinese nationals will be banned from purchasing property in large swaths of the state… and also affects citizens of Cuba, Venezuela, Syria, Iran, Russia, and North Korea.

One new law Democrats and Republicans agreed unanimously on is a sales tax exemption on baby and toddler products, including diapers, strollers, cribs and clothing. The tax package also includes exemptions for dental hygiene products and gun safety devices, such as trigger locks.

“As president, I’ll do the same.” DeSantis has a history of following through with successful actions. The AP article misses another key point among the 200 laws that went into effect today. Out of state nonresident, drivers licenses are null and void! Wow!

Too damn late. How do you deport 5 to 10,000,000 people without causing any immigration invaders riots like in France. Have you seen what is going on in France? The invaders have high power rifle snipers on roofs targeting the police and military. Those types of Effin terrorist are here right now… they are just buying their time waiting patiently for the right time, The Chinese, Middle East terrorists, African muslim terrorists dangerous criminals etc…all those have been given a green light by this EFFIN evil Administration to cross our borders without restrictions to destabilize our nation. Don’t you dare think for one minute what is happening in France cannot happen here because easily we’ll have at least 20 million invaders who would in a heartbeat riot if a Muslim youth justifying was shot by a police for a crime.

They are just reporting the news, or do you object to good news being reported?

Ron has been working hard? Really? I guess he writes, passes and then signs the laws, now. Completely counter to over 2 centuries of how government works in the Constitutional Republic, with 3 co-equal branches of government.

Does all of that while campaigning for President in other states. He is a hard worker.

When the sleazy AP is just reporting the news and “swooning” over DeSantis they have an ulterior motive.

WOW is right DeSantis-fan #2

Out of State drivers license null and void.

Men’s no more reciprocity between the other 49 states. Means that a father, on vacation with his family, will go to jail if he commits a traffic violation, is pulled over by police and they decide to write him. Given that a traffic ticket is considered a…Summons in Lieu of an Arrest.

No more ‘In Lieu Of’. Physical arrest or letting everyone go.

Awesome….so little Susie and Billy get to see their dad in cuffs, in the back of a patrol car for slow rolling a stop sign.

Also means that Florida drivers in the other 49 states will have the same consequences since there is no more reciprocity agreement concerning Driver’s licenses. Which all 50 states HAD until now. Because that’s how it works. Buried deep down in the code books, where everyone has forgotten about, are reciprocity agreements concerning drivers licenses.

Those reciprocity agreements are also the reason why gun permits are valid in some states and not in others.

Wonder what that’s going to do to the tourism industry, given that the money generated from it is one of the main reasons Florida doesn’t have a state income tax.

“I guess he writes, passes and then signs the laws, now. Completely counter to over 2 centuries of how government works in the Constitutional Republic, with 3 co-equal branches of government.”

“Florida lawmakers this year sent 280 bills to Gov. Ron DeSantis. Of that total, 149 that were signed or were awaiting signatures Monday had July 1 effective dates”

https://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/a-breakdown-of-the-new-laws-going-into-effect-in-florida-on-july-1/2792904/

Maybe if you spent less time blindly attacking Ron and more time reading, you’d have a clearer view of reality.

voids drivers licenses issued by other states to people in the country illegally...

Emphasis for the benefit of people who can't be bothered to actually read the article, and then ignorantly (or is it maliciously?) misrepresent the new law.

Yes, working with FL legislators and passing a spate of bills is hard work. Much harder than tweeting “law and order!” 10 times a day while the countries burns.
