Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott (D) took aim at states like Florida and Virginia for not having stricter gun control laws because he says their laws result in cases such as the mass shooting that took place in his city over the weekend.
The mass shooting at a block party just after midnight resulted in almost 30 people being shot with two others killed. The New York Times reports most of the victims were teenagers and there was more than one shooter. At this time, it is not known where the firearms that were used originated from.
"Mayor Scott, you said this year alone Baltimore pd confiscated 1,300 illegal weapons. Do you have a sense of where guns are coming from, the sort of illegal supply of guns are coming from into the city?" CNN's Audie Cornish asked.
"These guns come into Maryland – I want to be very clear about this – because Maryland has gun laws that actually have an impact. We have a ghost gun ban, which is why you see those numbers coming down. But these weapons come from Virginia. They come from Texas. They come from Florida. They come from Alabama. They come from everywhere in this country," Scott replied.
"Here we are dozens of years later, decades later at this point and we’re still dealing with mass shootings because of the inaction to deal with this issue on a national level. This can no longer be an issue that falls to the feet of local police, local elected officials or state governments," he continued.

Must have been those feral MAGA teens
If guns are banned in his city then how are the guns getting there? Can’t they read the laws and the “no guns allowed” signs? Surely the guns obey the signs, right?
It is stupid to not punish criminals for their criminal and violent behavior and still expect them to correct that behavior and obey all laws. Stupidity SHOULD be painful!
In our rural area, criminals are punished for their actions. Out-of-town thugs come here and think they will rob a store in the “ignorant” red-neck town and get away with it. Instead, they are arrested and sentenced to prison time. They are shocked to find that a crime that will result in only probation in a state such as Maryland, will get them ten years in prison here in rural Georgia.
It only took one or two instances of such happening here a couple years ago after the St. George of Floyd riots. Word quickly got around that we didn’t put up with such foolishness and it hasn’t happened since.
Brandon Scott looks and governs like a little boy wearing his daddy’s suit.
I wonder if the mayor is including guns seized at BWI in that total...
Interesting that the mayor never mentions parental responsibility...
“Maryland has gun laws that actually have an impact.”
Guns don’t kill people, thugs using guns kill and maim people. Those youths acquiring guns without background checks cause most of the problems.
Oh, background checks. Yeah, okay. Did you actually write that? 😂👍
It’s like an arsonist running around starting fires and this dumb azz mayor blames Bic lighters and matches.
At least he didn’t blame NASCAR because they were running on the streets of Chicago, so the Chicago thugs moved to Baltimore for the weekend..🤓
Why, it’s “Whitey”, of course!
Sounds like an interview with some black NFL players. Some of them can’t put to coherent sentences together.
It’s not the guns. It’s their culture.
Until they recognize that fact and act accordingly, the only change will be increasing violence.
> Our problems are those around us, funny. A long legacy of rot starting with pelousi family.
A bit earlier, really.
Cain: Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?”
“I don’t know,” he replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?”
Adam and Eve:
The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”
13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
It’s always the same story. Didn’t do it, someone else is to blame, especially when guilt is known.
Double, triple , quadruple down , by orders of magnitude. They ALL are sure to do it, it’s what’s expected of them > It’s all they’ve got. They are elected on the BASIS of how well they can deflect blame.
Hmmm….lemme see…Baltimore has the third highest violent crime rate at 2026/100,000 across cities in the nation.
Across those baaaad states, the next highest violent crime rate is Houston as the 18th, at 607/100,000. The next one is Dallas at 31st (373/100,000) then a cluster of cities in Texas and and Alabama Florida in the 30s.
How’s that?
Those guns just jumped over state lines and started shooting people in South Baltimore. Amazing!
Judging by the homicide rate in Baltimore I would say that statement is incorrect... or a flat-out lie.
NEVER!
