China simulates ‘Z-day’ total sea war with the US

China has just simulated a total war scenario at sea with the United States, an exercise that highlighted the People’s Liberation Army-Navy’s formidable challenges in a potential high-intensity conflict with an advanced, determined and highly-capable adversary.

South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that researchers from the PLA’s Unit 91404 recently added a “total war” scenario when testing and evaluating the performance of new weapons. Unit 91404 is responsible for the sea tests of some of China’s latest and most potent naval weapons.

The SCMP report notes that the researchers published their “Z-day” total war scenario in the peer-reviewed Chinese Journal of Ship Research last month. The report mentions that the researchers assumed that the Chinese military was under all-out attack by a hypothetical “blue alliance” with Arleigh Burke-class destroyers.

In the simulation, the PLA-N had nearly 50 destroyers, with each attacked with 11 missiles and more than three torpedoes coming from multiple directions.

The report also mentions the blue alliance generated jamming noises 30 times stronger than the signal PLA-N warships use for communication and that the detection range of Chinese radar was reduced to 60% below normal.

Those conditions destroyed almost a third of the Chinese destroyer’s air defense capabilities, with only half of their surface-to-air (SAM) missiles hitting their targets. Chinese naval experts who independently assessed the simulation results were quoted as saying the figures are “realistic.”

By highlighting weapon capabilities in doomsday scenarios, military forces can showcase readiness and deter potential adversaries from engaging in conflicts, researchers in the SCMP report said, with one saying that their paper is not intended to be viewed as a “horror movie.”

What, then, was the result of the US Army/Navy exercise mirroring this Chinese exercise.

I don’t seem to remember one.

WWIII will be for aircraft carriers what the American Civil War was for wooden hulled ships and WWII was for the battleship. If the US tries to run the coming blockade of Taiwan, my prediction will be borne out.

WW3 will be fought with troops placed into the USA by our stupid immigration policies.

We are importing a standing army.

And paying for it ourselves.

History will show the USA reached maximum stupidity under Biden.

Will the last “conservative” who still supports their country and country’s military turn out the lights?

I do not recognize this site anymore. Something went wrong.

Hint—it wasn’t Trump. He still believes in a Great America.

China may well be able to exert control over the South China Sea. At the very least, it would be extremely hazardous for the US Navy to send any surface ships into the area.

BUT

The US submarine fleet is the best and most advanced in the world. It could certainly deny the use of the South China Sea to China by torpedoing anything Chinese that entered the area.

In the event of such a conflict, the US Navy could and would impose a naval blockade on China. It would be quite effective because so much of the energy China needs still has to cross through the strait of Malacca and the Chinese navy doesn’t have the legs to effectively project power that far - and of course US attack submarines which could sink any oil tanker trying to make it through to China.

Of course, this may well change in future years as Russia builds out the pipelines to China needed to supply them with oil and natural gas thanks to the Deep State’s idiotic decision to push Russia straight into China’s arms.

What went wrong is squandering our wealth and becoming indebted while trying to be an Asian land power and letting our sea power go. We have nothing to show for it except military failures all over the Middle East and a maritime force [Navy, relevant Air Force, Space Force] that sorely needs rethinking and recapitalization for the sea power mission.

While Col. Macgregor talks about this and understands it well, he misses a point. Taiwan isn't jsut a little island, as he asserts, any more than UK or NZ are little islands. The point of sea power is that it allows you to defend your islands. MacArthur was clear about the importance of Taiwan in the island bulwark in the Western Pacific.

This is where the neocon globalists went very wrong. They forgot our natural strategic advantage being protected by two oceans over which we trade with the rest of the world.

Being an asian landpower is a sad lot in life. It is bad enough for those who have to live with it because of geopolitical realities [Russia is but one]. We don't and we shouldn't have tried. You have too many enemies, no natural defensive barriers, and victories are too fleeting.

It isn't us who gave up on America. It is the neocon globalists who tried to turn us into something we cannot be and squandered a fortune doing so.

The Chinese are in population Collapse. 45 years after the one child policy - they are running out of working adults. The 2020 census shows the average female in Shanghai has .7 offspring.

26 years from today - there will be half as many Hann Chinese on the planet than there were at the Chinese peak in 2005.

Taiwan is a little island. It’s about the size of Maryland. The eastern 2/3 is mountains. The western 1/3 is plains and where the major cities and port are located, approximately 120 miles from China.

Taiwan’s ports are all within short range missile range of China. Not to mention all the semiconductor fabs.

Taiwan, Japan, the Phillipines, England can all be attacked from the mainland. But can they be captured and held when they are defended by a sea-power?

I served for 22 years and my perspective is from the inside.

The problems are all due to politics. I don’t disagree that we screwed up going after Iraq. Afghanistan was right and correct for us, but the nation-building efforts were a huge mistake. Colin Powell’s “you break it you own it” policy was ridiculous and driven by crybabies in the media. The successful policy would be “we break it and will do it again if you threaten or hurt us.”

We’re still the strongest military power on Earth. It is Washington DC and New York City where things get messed up.

There’s a lot of reasons for this, more than you or I could type in a single post. There are three basic political factors: The public’s response to casualties and enemy civilian deaths (they overreact), the place the media carved out for itself as the “experts” and “judges” of military policy and tactics (they’re not, they’re arrogant Monday-morning quarterbacks), and the back-and-forth democrat party (when they’re in power) attempts to use the military for social purposes (total distraction).

We have nothing to show for it because we’ve been reactive to the media’s constant criticism.

I want to see the problems reversed. The only way for us here to do something about it is to elect the right people.

There’s far too much naval gazing and trying to be the smartest poster on Free Republic and not enough actual activism. I don’t care how smart anyone is, or how well they talk.

If we don’t get Trump back in office and Biden wins, or some RINO, then we’ve lost more than an election.
