Honestly, I was sort of startled when the long standing fight against overpopulation (The Population Bomb —1968 book “warned of the perils of overpopulation: mass starvation, societal upheaval, environmental deterioration.” , Feed Me, I’m Yours (don’t have children) and so on, switched to fears of not enough population.
I remember the late Lawrence Ferlinghetti saying the Pope was “sinful” for not allowing abortions and birth control because the whole world was at risk. He said every ill was traceable to overpopulation: pollution, gridlock, starvation in some countries, crime in urban areas, species extinction and the rest.
This was not a flub, the truth somehow slipped out of her mouth.
