Reps. Dan Newhouse (R-WA), Mike Simpson (R-ID), David Valadao (R-CA), and John Duarte (R-CA) have joined Reps. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), Jim Costa (D-CA), Jimmy Panetta (D-CA), Salud Carbajal (D-CA), Henry Cuellar (D-TX), and Jerry Nadler (D-NY) to reintroduce the Farm Workforce Modernization Act — a bill passed in 2019 and 2021 that ultimately failed to gain traction in the Senate despite being backed by many Republicans and Democrats.
Aside from providing amnesty to about 2.1 million illegal aliens working on U.S. farms — allowing them to apply for green cards and eventually secure naturalized American citizenship — the bill keeps agriculture wages down to “[protect] against sudden wage increases that disrupt employer planning and operations.”
Specifically, the bill freezes wages for one year and caps wage fluctuations nationwide at 3.25 percent for almost a decade.
The bill also dramatically grows the nation’s limitless H-2A visa program in which foreign workers are imported to take U.S. farm jobs for up to three years. Under provisions of the bill, dairy farmers and other agriculture-related sectors would be able to import up to 20,000 foreign H-2A visa workers.
In addition, the bill adds 40,000 employment-based green cards for which foreign H-2A visa workers can apply after a decade in the program — creating a new pipeline of legal immigration.

Apologies. Article is from yesterday, used today’s date by error.

Why aren’t wages set by the market?
David Valadao (R-Calif.) represents a rural district in the San Joaquin Valley. He probably takes money from Big Ag seeking cheap labor.
Do people still go through the formality of becoming a citizen or has the Uniparty moved past that?
Why can’t Americans pick our own strawberries?
Pursue that question down the logic rabbit hole, and you’ll come out with an unpleasant view of our financial and political system.
A pox on both their houses.

These hordes are no more picking crops then you or I am.
It’s just an excuse for these parasites to flood into the country.
Well, we’re just going to have to all agree to vote a lot harder next election time.
Any degree to which Americans “can’t” pick strawberries is completely engineered and contrived. We don’t need swarmers and invaders and those who promote the idea that we do are part of the problem.
Deport all wetbacks. Period. Enter our nation’s border legally or never benefit from our freedoms.
Any legislation spewed forth “El Gordo Gato” Nadler, should not be trusted!!
He is too old!!
“Screw you Senor, We didn’t walk 1500 miles to get here and pick your stinking strawberries, pick them yourself Gringo!”
Hey Democrats! Remember the boycott of lettuce and grapes in solidarity with the strike by the migrant field hands from the United Farmworkers' Union and its founder Cesar Chavez in the 1960s? And you guys couldn't get enough of Chavez, and made him a T-shirt saint?
And remember why he was striking? It was because Big Ag was hiring--wait for it--illegal aliens to pick crops, instead of American citizens.
And guess what Chavez thought of illegal aliens, despite his completely Spanish name? That they're illegal. He was a real American.
You Demo-Communists have disposable issues, disposable heroes, and disposable countries. Because you just use them to gain power, and betray them as seems useful.
Give the illegals amnesty after they've reached home.
The endless GOP circle jerk continues...
Thank goodness none of these traitorous scum were alive when those slant-eyed bastards attacked Pearl Harbor...
“You Demo-Communists have disposable issues, disposable heroes, and disposable countries. Because you just use them to gain power, and betray them as seems useful.”
Yup—that is why they want to get rid of us old-timers.
We have long memories.

This was done in the mid 1980s and it was a disaster.
Fraud was massive and largely ignored. Hundreds of thousands of farm workers received green cards and promptly left agg and went into construction work displacing legal aliens and US citizens.
The ensuing lack of farm labor ensured that the next big wave of illegal migration would fill the shortage.
This is wash, rence and repete.
They are all sellouts.
Farming should have undergone the same progressive increases in wages that the rest of the workforce has over the past half century. If anything, with illegals, wages AND working conditions have gone down over that time.
Any scarcity of farm labor should have forced improvements in wages and work conditions, but each round of illegals instead have made both worse.
