Russia has halted a wartime deal allowing Ukraine to ship grain. It’s a blow to global food security

Russia halted a breakthrough wartime deal on Monday that allows grain to flow from Ukraine to countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia where hunger is a growing threat and high food prices have pushed more people into poverty.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia would suspend the Black Sea Grain Initiative until its demands to get its own food and fertilizer to the world are met. While Russia has complained that restrictions on shipping and insurance have hampered its agricultural exports, it has shipped record amounts of wheat.

“When the part of the Black Sea deal related to Russia is implemented, Russia will immediately return to the implementation of the deal,” Peskov said.

All would be fine if the west quit attacking farmers and quit destroying food production.

Takes more than one country to create a world wide famine. Especially when there are some that need one to happen to control people.

From Tass:
Turkey has shifted the orientation of its foreign policy somewhat following the NATO summit in Vilnius. “Erdogan met with Joe Biden. He said that a new stage had begun in the development of bilateral [US-Turkish] relations. [Ankara’s steering of a]n independent course - distancing itself from Washington, Moscow, Brussels and London - has at times given each of the key decision-making centers cause for anxiety,” Koshkin noted.

Erdogan also ticked off the Russians by releasing those 5 Azov Battalion commanders. This is not good. The most likely peace broker, short of Donald Trump, should be Erdogan. He was successful at it in the spring of ‘22.

Right, its the west somehow "attacking farmers" and not Putin's invasion of Ukraine, killing Ukrainian farmers. Unbelievable

Looks like they’d better take out the rail side of that bridge also.

You can't go your own way in the rules based international order. You have to do what our rules tell you to do. What are the ruleS? Do what I say. them's the rules.

They aren’t killing farmers unless Ukraine has dragged them off the farm and placed the in front of Russian artillery.

Don’t post to me anymore.

That area of the world has been barbaric for centuries. They do not care how many died. If Stalin killing 100,000,000 didn’t give anyone a hint, then nothing will.

Be very wary of Erdogan.

I don’t for one second believe he has the west’s best interests in mind.

History teaches us that one baddie always replaces another, and usually it’s the guy who helped us defeat the previous baddie.

That’s exactly what Turkey is. They just want Russia out of the way, to bring back The Ottoman Empire.

A minor point -

The Turkish navy considerably outnumbers the Russian Black Sea fleet. And it seems it has substantial tech advantages too.

Erdogan is leader of a failed state. He flounders around completely unable to come up with the means to reverse his countries decline.

All the world knows it. He has been approached by many offering help but turned it away.

Sounds sensible enough. Make a deal.

Agree.

Nor does the west have the west’s best interests in mind.
