Typically what you pay for electricity depends on how much you use. But the state’s three largest electric utilities — Southern California Edison Company, Pacific Gas and Electric Company and San Diego Gas & Electric Company — have proposed a plan to charge customers not just for how much energy they use, but also based on their household income.

My electric bill will be put in my dog's name

Pull your meter and cut it through with butter knife blades.

When they remove the tap at the pole, run your own Nomex cable.

I’m not a high income household, but this really angers me.

Who died and made these people gods over our ‘deserved’
income, and the penalties for such?

This sort of thing should be actionable, and these people
have to sit in prison for a decade or so, to reflect on
their idiocy.

In my June bill (Alabama Power) they charged me 16.6¢/kWh (after adding riders and state tax). That's a 21.8% increase year over year (compared to June 2022 bill).

May's bill was 15.8¢/kWh (13.3% YoY increase).

Could be summed up as: From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.

Where have I heard that before?

We are in the midst of a heat wave right now in So Cal - and my A/C has been on 24/7 for the past few days - with no end in sight.

I am not wealthy by any means and the a/c is set to 75, hardly cool - I have elderly relatives with health problems and may have to turn the a/c down.

I used less electricity and water than the same month last year but my bill is far higher.

I suspect the local pols will consider me and my neighbors “rich” (most are elderly on fixed incomes) b/c we own our own homes (and that isn’t fair to those who don’t) - and jack up our bills even higher.

Today it’s PG&E. Soon it will be groceries, clothing and other services.

Obviously, you are joking about putting it in you dog’s name, but many households include people of various income levels. Why not put the account in the name of your teen or adult child who earns $30K a year?

One of the ‘benefits’ of having a state income tax is that the state knows EXACTLY what your income is. I suspect states without an income tax would have a tougher time implementing this.

In theory one could run a 5000BTU room air conditioner using about $500 worth of solar panels.

“1 BTU is equal to 0.293 watts”

“it is important to know that the running watts are lower than the starting watts. We need high power for a few seconds when the AC starts, so we need to consider this wattage too.”

Coming soon to signs in California:

Do you need to charge up your EV with low cost electricity?

I am a low income homeowner with electric wiring and a parking space.

Jose, I heard you need some extra dinero.

Why don’t you park your EV in front of my house and let me use it to power my house?

You pay 50 cents each day to charge it up and I will pay you $4 each day to use up most of its electric charge.

This is just a test.
If CA voters don’t complain, it will get much worse.
I am sure glad I left CA in 2002.

“My electric bill will be put in my dog’s name”

Explain to the electric company that your dog is a transgender black—lower rates!

The question that the state hasn't answered is how, exactly, they're going to figure out what an individual ratepayer's actually is. It's a big job, as noted in the article.
Another major issue: data collection. To implement the changes, the state will have to categorize approximately 14 million households into income brackets, and a third-party administrator probably will have to verify their incomes, state and utilities officials say.

What are they going to do? Ask? What if people don't respond? Can one challenge the category you've been placed into?

This is another terrible idea coming from the entrenched socialist wreckers in Berkeley and Sacramento, confirming our decision to get out of California.

Meanwhile, from NYS...

This is despite the billions we spend for LIHEAP and the fact that Deep State is still exporting record amounts of our energy while waging a war on generation.
