Democrats scramble to reach voters after Florida cancels mail-in ballot requests
NBC News / Comcast ^ | July 22, 2023 | By Jane C. Timm (D-NBC)

Florida Democrats say they’re spending and organizing to chase down people who vote by mail after election officials across the state canceled all standing mail ballot requests this year.

The mass cancellations were to comply with a 2021 election law that added new restrictions to mail-in voting. The legislation — which was celebrated by Gov. Ron DeSantis and slammed by voting rights advocates as discriminatory — cut the duration of mail-in ballot requests in half from four years to two. It also required that existing requests for mail ballots be canceled at the end of 2022, forcing election workers to cancel millions of requests and start their lists of vote-by-mail voters from scratch.

Democrats in the state say the change disproportionately affects their voters, who have embraced mail-in voting more than Republicans since 2020, when then-President Donald Trump falsely claimed mail-in voting was rife with fraud. The new law is forcing campaigns to adapt; Democrats say they're organizing aggressively to educate voters about renewing their mail ballot requests, sapping resources from voter registration and other outreach efforts.

Election officials say they’re sending out mailers and text messages and reminding voters of the change whenever they get the chance. But in the six months since the ballot requests were canceled, less than a third of voters in three large counties have taken steps to request mail ballots again.

These idiots never tire of playing the race card. So what if people have to request a ballot before each election? That’s how it always should’ve been. It’s as if Democrats think their voters are totally incapable of calling the elections of office or of going online.

Mail in voting is fraud, and is the main vehicle for fraud around the world.

When the US Postal Service admits that they lose up to 4% of the mail, and elections are within 1%, why would you vote by mail?

This is not counting mail carriers who will throw ballots out because they don’t like the neighborhood.

Once a year a voter is asked if they still would like a mail-in ballot to vote. In other words “are you still an eligible voter?”

When there were “absentee ballots” voters had to request prior to each election and state the reason they would not be able to vote. Ironically the Democrats won the majority of elections then.

The Single Biggest Thing the GOP can do to ensure Election Integrity is to track mail-in ballots that are returned by the USPS.

“the change disproportionately affects their voters”

Yes I would expect that cancelling these ‘mail in’ ballot requests would disproportionally affect their efforts to commit vote fraud.

This is legislation I can really cheer! Good job Florida.

Senate Bill 90 passed in 2021 mandates all vote-by-mail requests to be submitted before November 8. The 2022 general election expired on December 31.

A vote-by-mail ballot used to be good for two elections. Now, it only works for one. Only 23,000 voters in Lee County have requested a new vote by mail ballot. Election officials are concerned about the low numbers.

Duval County has posted add’l information:

With the new law vote-by-mail ballots must be requested in writing each year.
One request for a Vote-by-Mail ballot will cover all elections through the end of the calendar year of the next scheduled general election. All requests currently on file will be good through the end of 2023.

Dems and lapdog media up in arms, blah, blah, blah.

GA passed mail-in reform in 2021 (along with voter ID requirements, drop-box reform etc). In the 2022 General Election about 15 out of 16 votes were cast in-person.

A survey of black voters after the 2022 election found blacks were not upset about this. Blacks (like everybody else) found it easy to vote, the Gov’t ID requirements didn’t hold anyone back.

And BTW, the courts, Federal and State, upheld the new GA voter laws, inspite of calamity howling by libs.

Mail-in reform is possible, the courts will uphold it if the laws are written right. The big problem is that State Legislators have to get off their butts and pass the laws. Looks like they’ve made a good start in FL.

Unless, of course, they use drop boxes.

“Democrats in the state say the change disproportionately affects their voters, who have embraced mail-in voting more than Republicans since 2020, when then-President Donald Trump falsely claimed mail-in voting was rife with fraud.”

I remember one of the Democrats in Texas also, falsely (LOL), claiming that mail-in ballots are rife with fraud.

The Texas legislature was debating a Voter ID bill, and one of the Democrats said: “Why are you wasting your time on this, all of the fraud is in the Mail-In Ballots.”

The USPS should not be a major part of the fraud because:

1) Ballot by mail request *MUST* be originated by the voter who provides a valid mailing address and possibly some form of ID.
2) The ballot packet is sent to the voter by the local gubmint office in charge of such things (county, parish, etc). Each ballot/packet has unique tracking info included.
4) Voter fills out ballot and returns it.

If the USPS ‘intercepts’ a ballot, the ballot will be known to be missing on or soon after election day.

Everybody else shows up to vote in person on election day.
