I wouldn’t call it surreal. It’s actually pretty clever.
With one statement they can pump up the Trump tribe and also influence a few Republican doubters to possibly support Trump to get him the nomination. At the same time it energizes any leftards that may be becoming complacent. They want Trump to get the nomination, it generates viewership and they feel confident he can’t win.
They want to motivate their base via fear, not exude confidence.
