Leprosy — also known as Hansen's disease — is becoming endemic in the southeastern United States, rising evidence from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows.
A recently published research letter from the CDC says Central Florida accounted for 81% of cases reported in Florida and almost one-fifth of cases reported across the U.S. According to the National Hansen's Disease Program, 159 new cases were reported in the U.S. in 2020.

Contact tracing is gonna be real easy with illegals, ain’t it...
Hmm, lets see...malaria is rampant in FL, the waters are boiling in FL, the state isn’t safe for people of color, and now it’s overrun with leprosy. One might begin to wonder if this current admin doesn’t like FL very much, ya think?
Do you wash your hands after handling the menu and BEFORE handling your silverware, napkin, etc? BTW, that salt shaker has a lot of mileage on it.
Armadillos have long been tested and researched for leprosy in Florida.
This is nothing new….
Louisiana as well
Albeit I certainly believe the disease can be brought in by illegals.
Stay out of Florida! We have leprosy! Especially around, and near, Disney!
You can be sure the lepers will vote Democrat.
(From the article):" Leprosy — also known as Hansen's disease — is becoming endemic in the southeastern United States,
rising evidence from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows."
"A recently published research letter from the CDC says Central Florida accounted for 81% of cases reported in Florida
and almost one-fifth of cases reported across the U.S. According to the National Hansen's Disease Program, 159 new cases were reported in the U.S. in 2020."
So says this version of the "news." All aimed at Florida, one observes. But...
"According to the National Hansen's Disease Program, 159 new cases were reported in the U.S. in 2020." "In the United States, about 150 people get infected annually, according to the CDC."
“Today, about 208,000 people worldwide are infected with leprosy, according to the World Health Organization, most of them in Africa and Asia. About 100 people are diagnosed with leprosy in the U.S. every year, mostly in the South, California, Hawaii, and some U.S. territories.”

208K worldwide in a population of 8 billion. 0.0026 percent of the worldwide population.
So the CDC “targets” Florida in their “news” statement. Hmm.
But, more....
72 percent (129) of new cases were reported by Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, New York and Texas The largest proportion of cases (43) that identified an ethnic association declared "themselves to be Asian or South Pacific Islander."
"In the last 30 years (1985-2015), 6,076 new cases have been reported. The number of cases reported per year peaked at 456 in 1983. "

So BE AFRAID. And of course BE ESPECIALLY AFRAID IN FLORIDA. Where Trump has a home and De Santis is governor.
More like an effort by the Left (and their government) to destroy Florida’s tourism industry.
Great I live in central Florida. Saw a couple armadillos passing through the other day. Kept the family and dogs inside why they passed through. Not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.
Oh, you’re bad.
Per the CDC...
“In the southern United States, some armadillos are naturally infected with the bacteria that cause Hansen’s disease in people and it may be possible that they can spread it to people. However, the risk is very low and most people who come into contact with armadillos are unlikely to get Hansen’s disease.
For general health reasons, avoid contact with armadillos whenever possible...”
This why we need to send them all home. The illegals are bringing in disease that use to be eradicated decades ago due to strong immigration and border control. Nice job Dems.
Meh, you can either wash your hands 37 times a day (and it still won’t be enough), or you can just embrace the germs and let your immune system do what it does best.
“The illegals are bringing in disease that use to be eradicated decades ago...”
Yes, but we are only allowed to freak out about a disease if doing so will either help to damage a Republican president, or help to get a Democrat president elected. Get with the program!
There. I fixed it for you.
yes treated by antibiotics but just wait til we have an antibiotic shortage......without looking it up, I think simple tetracycline is the drug of choice....
LOL we once viewed a house where indians lived and we just knew we’d never ever get smell of curry out of the structure. I asked mold remediation/restoration company once and they said it’s a thing- they have to actually take steps to eliminate it
