Politicians Urge Taylor Swift to Postpone LA Concerts in Solidarity with Striking Hotel Workers

LOS ANGELES (AP) — California’s lieutenant governor and other elected officials on Tuesday urged Taylor Swift to postpone her Los Angeles concerts as a way to stand in solidarity with striking hotel workers.

Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis and dozens of state and local politicians signed an open letter telling Swift that her tour makes the region’s hotels money, with some properties “doubling and tripling what they charge because you are coming.”

Meanwhile, the letter said, many housekeepers and other hotel workers can’t afford to live close to their jobs and some sleep in their cars and risk losing their homes.

“Hotel workers are fighting for their lives. They are fighting for a living wage. They have gone on strike. Now, they are asking for your support,” they wrote. “Stand with hotel workers and postpone your concerts.”

Well, Freedom of Speech has already gone the way of the dodo, so it looks like Freedom of Silence now needs to have a fork stuck in it, because it’s done.

Everything must serve The Party, after all.

I think here it’s because like the Film Actors Guild strike, no one cares.

I’ll make my own hotel bed. As it is I look for a maid cart and trade in the towels and get toiletries as needed.

The Lt Governor is a typical communist imbecile. Maybe she should answer some questions: How much does the government rake in off hotel, restaurant, and sales taxes for these concert events? How are unionized unskilled laborers helped by depriving hotels of revenue — will that make it easier for hotels to pay their employees more? How many small businesspeople earn a living off the concerts? How about the hundreds of people employed to manage the concert operation? How much have trade unions contributed to finance your political career? Kommunalakis should resign.

Last time I read about it, some hotels have all types of bodily fluids on the bed covers, and other parts of the room, left over from former clients. Seems like they don’t always wash the bed covers, or parts of the room. And many of the rooms are just “rent a brothel pop-ups” business deals. Especially in Vegas.
Ewwwwww....

I am not a Taylor Swift fan.
However, her concert tour has had a dramatic positive economic effect on all the metro areas where her concert tour has stopped this year. Every are hotel is sold out. Parking prices are double or triple normal area stadium prices.
Even the train tickets from South Station in Boston out to Gillette stadium(Foxboro) were sold out immediately and then sold at major increases to face value. The tour has had a significant effect on US GDP.

Even in my office there were two men in their 50s that were part of the Taylor Swift Fan Club. That allowed them to buy 2-4 tickets when they went on sale. They then sold them for a significant profit on Stub Hub.
These two same individuals were formerly members of the Hanna Montana fan club for the exact same reason. One of them used to work for a tickets broker.

Exactly, entertainers and corporations should simply say, we're not in the business of taking public political sides so leave us alone.

So Taylor is going to cancel a gig on a tour where the average ticket is going for more than $1k? Just what she needs: More controversy.

I think her schedule for the next year is too tight to start cancelling dates.

That has been known for years. They change the sheets, but not the comforter/bedspread. It is always the first thing I rip off and throw in the corner in every hotel room.

When my wife travels with her Chihuahua’s she also looks under the bed for rat poison and DRUGS potentially left by a previous person.

Now with the amount of bed bug problems, I also lift the mattress up and look with the flashlight on my smartphone to check for signs of bed bugs.

I spent the last ten days in hotels in Reno and NoCal. Two to three nights in the same place, then moving to another. You know how many “housekeepers” came into my room to make the bed or exchange towels? Zero.

Hotels stopped doing the daily cleaning a while ago.

I recall my early travel days where the room was cleaned daily, turn down service, and a damned chocolate on the pillow. I have over 1,100 nights in Marriott Hotels. They aren’t much better than a Motel 6 these days.

“When my wife travels with her Chihuahua’s“

My recent hotel experience was dried dog urine on the floor in the room and barking mutts down the hall while its owners went out on the town. Another recent experience saw a dog owner carrying his imaginary friend into breakfast and feeding it by hand from the buffet.

We’d all be better off if your wife and all dog nutters would leave their mutts at home where they belong. Today’s hotels are filthy enough without these flea ridden mutants.

I am sorry that you had a bad experience from a uncaring pet owner.

First of all, we pay extra to have our dogs in the hotel room.
We typically do not leave them alone in the room.
If we do they are locked in their crate.
Our dogs are cleaner than most humans.
They do not have fleas or ticks.
They are typically there to show at AKC confirmation shows and kept very clean and recently bathed.
