4.August.2023 Russia says thwarted Ukraine attacks on Black Sea naval base, Novorossisyk {Russian mainland}

Russian vessels destroyed two sea drones approaching naval base in Novorossiysk What is special about the latest incident is that it took place at a Russian mainland

Russia said Friday it had thwarted Ukrainian sea and air drone attacks on a naval base in the Black Sea and the Crimean peninsula. The number of attacks in the sea has increased from both sides since Moscow exited a deal last month that had allowed Ukrainian grain exports via the shipping hub during the conflict between the two countries. “Tonight, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, with the use of two unmanned sea boats, attempted an attack on the Novorossiysk naval base of the Russian Armed Forces,” the defence ministry said on Telegram.

Russian ships destroyed the naval drones, it said. It was the first such attack targeting the port city.

Novorossiysk hosts the terminus of a pipeline that carries most Kazakh oil exports through Russia.

...“a temporary ban has been established on the movement of ships in the port”

No dry dock in port of Novorossiysk is large enough to handle the Olenegorsky Gornyak. The ship is toast.

i cannot help wondering if this is the start of something nuclear and world wide.

if the situation were reversed and say cuba was attacking ships at pensacola, would i want the russians to cheer for cuba? (what would be the point of cuba attacking pensacola?)

as for ultimate consequences i am reminded of the 1959 movie, “on the beach.”

Threatening with nukes is such a typical leftist tactic. We see it all the time with Democrats here: be as distasteful as possible with the hope their political opponents won’t want get that filth on them.

Nothing new about Russia’s genocidal wars of choice on their smaller neighbors. I can’t help but wonder if broken and defeated conservatives would offer any resistance to similar attacks on US. I think not, sadly.

Let’s actually reverse the situation: What if Venezuela invaded Guyana? Would we criticize Guyana for defending itself by attacking military targets within Venezuela?

Or what if Nicaragua invaded Costa Rica? Would we say it’s wrong for Costa Rica to defend itself by attacking military targets within Nicaragua?

Russia does not care about how many troops or how much equipment is lost or damaged - nothing like this would cause the Russians to use nukes - stop hyperventilating over nothing.

Putin may view defeat in Ukraine as a mortal threat to him personally. When Hitler knew for certain he had lost, he ordered the destruction of German infrastructure to punish the German people for letting him down. Putin may see a nuclear holocaust as preferrable to defeat, and at least he will have the pleasure of knowing that Europeans and Americans are suffering as much as him.

Probably not totalled. It may already be beached.
I imagine it should be repairable. But its obviously out of action for a long time, months probably. Thats a bit mpre of a problem for Russian logistics.

https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2023/08/meat-grinder-ukraine-loses-43000-soldiers-since-june/

“Since the start of the so-called ‘offensive,’ the Ukrainian armed forces lost over 43,000 soldiers in June-July. This number does not include the injured, who were evacuated to hospitals in Ukraine and abroad, foreign mercenaries as well as the soldiers that were neutralized in long-range high-precision strikes in rear areas,” the Russian Ministry of Defence claimed. Gateway had estimated Ukrainian losses at 46.800, based on previous MoD figures.

“Over four thousand nine hundred units of various AFU weapons have been destroyed on the line of contact, including 26 aircraft, 9 helicopters, 1,831 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles, including 25 German-manufactured Leopard tanks, 7 French AMX wheeled tanks and 21 U.S.-manufactured Bradley IFVs. In addition, the enemy losses were 747 field artillery pieces and mortars, including 76 U.S.-manufactured M777 artillery systems, as well as 84 self-propelled artillery systems from Poland, the United States, France and Germany”, the Russian ministry claimed.
