LeBron James’ I Promise School Eighth Graders Failed To Pass State Math Test, Spokesperson Replies

It was reported last week, via Akron Beacon Journal, that upcoming eighth graders at LeBron James’ I Promise School in Akron, Ohio, hadn’t passed the math portion of their state proficiency exam in three years. A spokesperson for the LeBron James Family Foundation has responded to that report, asserting their plan to invest in the students long term.

“When we started this work to wraparound students through education, we entered this partnership with Akron Public School for the long haul,” a representative told Complex. “Because this work requires a long term commitment, hard work, and a lot of love and care. And that’s what we bring each and every day because the I Promise School is more than a school.”

The I Promise School opened in 2018 and, per The New York Times, test scores increased significantly in just one year for these students who, at the time, were in the third grade. “These kids are doing an unbelievable job, better than we all expected,” LeBron James said back in 2019. “When we first started, people knew I was opening a school for kids. Now people are going to really understand the lack of education they had before they came to our school. People are going to finally understand what goes on behind our doors.”

I always say when the NYT tells you a new initiative to raise black school achievement is a great success, just wait a couple years and you'll find out it actually failed.

FLASHBACK: April 12, 2019

LeBron James Opened a School That Was Considered an Experiment. It’s Showing Promise. The inaugural class of third and fourth graders at the school has posted extraordinary results on its first set of test scores.

I’m quite sure the “actin’ white” philosophy is taught there, or at least encouraged. Getting good grades is “actin’ white.” I’ve seen this first-hand.

Why would anyone want illiterates involved in education? Think James and most teachers.

“LeBron James’ I Promise School Eighth Graders Failed To Pass State Math Test, “

Why is the NYT bashing Lebron’s school when it’s performance is as good or better than many inner city schools in NY and is not funded by tax dollars?

Imagine how much better kids would score on tests if they spent as much time studying as they did shooting free throws or hanging out with friends? Priorities make a difference.

And Labron James failed to pass state grammar test.

I have no idea what what he is attempting to communicate in that headline.

Because it is funded by tax dollars. LeBron explicitly rejected working with private schools or charter schools. It’s an initiative run exclusively in partnership with public schools only. The dude’s name isn’t LeBrains...

I’m sure they were passed to the next grade.

I doubt if LeBron could pass a 5th\6th grade math test.

Is there any evidence he can even read?

No amount of money, high, priced, teaching, or high tech wizardry will accomplish. What a simple message from home can accomplish. Education is important. A culture destroys these children.

This guy probably believed his agent when told the pre nup was iron clad, then proceeded to have two sons before he married his wife. She had his paycheck until those kids finished school and he never knew it. But amazingly, it would appear he has a good marriage, no rumors, no problems that we know of. Maybe he can do one thing right besides put a round ball in a round hole.

It confused me too but it isn’t quoting LeBron
The name of the school is “LeBron James I Promise School”

If you want kids to actually learn, treat them like students were treated in a 1940’s era Catholic school.

Forgot to add, if they misbehave they are punished, and expelled. Most of the 13%ers can’t or won’t manage themselves. Some say they are incapable. I lean to the latter by about 60-40.
