Wisconsin Supreme Court infighting include accusations of illegal actions

Justices on the Wisconsin Supreme Court have been debating back-and-forth about recent actions taken by the court's new liberal majority, floating allegations of illegal actions and improperly-noticed meetings.

The spat began shortly after new liberal Justice Janet Protasiewicz was sworn in on Tuesday, after which the liberal majority on the court quickly moved to fire the administrative director of the court and place organizational power over the Supreme Court in a three-justice committee instead of solely with the chief justice — who is currently a conservative.

Chief Justice Annette Ziegler said the meetings conducted by the four liberal justices were not properly noticed, adding during an interview on the conservative Dan O'Donnell Show that taking that power away from the chief justice flies in the face of the state Constitution.

"Number one, the Constitution calls for the chief justice to be the administrative head of the judiciary, and the administrative authority of the chief justice has always been clear," Ziegler told O'Donnell.

The Wisconsin Constitution provides that: "The chief justice of the supreme court shall be the administrative head of the judicial system and shall exercise this administrative authority pursuant to procedures adopted by the supreme court."

The same section also provides however, that any meeting of four justices constitutes a quorum for conducting the court's business. There is also likely very little recourse for conservatives looking to launch a legal challenge, as the state Supreme Court gets the final say over matters of the state Constitution.

Liberals on the court may be looking to circumvent the conservative chief justice's authority over concerns that conservatives on the bench would try to slow down liberals' priority cases — like abortion and legislative redistricting.

News 3 Now reached out to the liberal justice who announced the changes on Friday, but she did not immediately respond.

'At best, a little odd'

UW-Madison professor Ryan Owens, a court scholar and former Republican attorney general candidate, said he had not seen much like this back-and-forth before.

"This is highly unusual," Owens said. "I think what we're seeing here is the liberal justices trying to consolidate their power, very quickly, using methods that some have claimed to be extra-constitutional, or extra-legal."

He said the actions could be seen by some to erode confidence in the court.

"We're seeing a real strong backlash among conservatives right now, among many institutions, the FBI, the DOJ, they're seeing unequal justice being employed from their perspective," Owens said. "I think if they see institutions like the Supreme Court, ignoring their procedures, and operating in a way, so as to achieve ideological ends pretty clearly, you know, that could threaten legitimacy."

He added however, that courts can generally face those legitimacy questions and frequently have to balance political and ideological considerations.

"I think this kind of brazen political consolidation is not good for the court," he said. "I hope that we'll see better from them as time progresses."

Elections matter! We put up a very poor conservative candidate in this race. Things are heating up right out of the gate, and won't be getting any better for many years to come. D@mmit!

Liberals will do anything to make people bow to their will - death, devastation, theft, lie, abuse, vandalize, slander, cheat and lie.

They aren’t happy doing this to their own people - they have to destroy the world before they are truly happy.

This is how liberals operate - they chip away at the system until you wake up one morning and realize your rights have been taken and there’s no way of getting them back. It’s called the ratchet effect.

“We put up a very poor conservative candidate in this race.”

Worse than Fetterman? Democrats put up awful candidates all the time. They still win. Demodogs will vote for criminal, perverts, incompetent fools, liars, child molesters, terrorist, the dead, or zombies. They also have people voting for the ghost of FDR, JFK, HST, LBJ and any other SOB that promises something for nothing still vote for them. They vote the platform not the person.

There is NO candidate worse than a liberal. Conservative are just stupid for not realizing it is the platform not the person. Get off your moral high horse! Vote the plat form.

Using California, Washington (state) and Oregon as a historical guide, I think you can conclude these Liberals will render EXTREME decisions in coming years and the exodus from Wisconsin will commence.

Rat takeover starts with one of two steps or both. The SOS offices, the state SC. After that it’s like dominoes

We do it in other ways too. Look at those wanting to ditch Mitch now. Is he old and no longer in the currently mainstream of conservatism. Yes. Would he be less bad than with what current KY Gov would replace him. No. So, don’t ditch him now, prop him up. Could replace him in leadership, but I’m not sure doing that now makes much difference. Replace current Gov this fall and then ditch Mitch. If we had a solid majority we could afford to clean up the exceptions, but now even Mitt and Murkey are occasionally useful. We need to primary more and get closer to our potential. But we also need to realize there will always be purple states, even though the issues that divide them will change over time. Ours, the thinking side, will always be more divided over the fine print, and have some claim what others consider to be fine print to be the larger print. Their side will always fall into an unthinking yet united mob more readily. We need to recognize this reality and strategize accordingly.

I sat on a board with Ann Walsh Bradley’s husband. He was always very quiet, but I know behind the scenes he pushed things hard to the left. She’s a bad influence on that court, as is our newest member.

And yes, Kelly was an awful candidate. I think the left crossed over in the primary to make sure Jennifer Dorow didn’t win.

exodus from Wisconsin will commence.

Again.

Under Former Governor Doyal, it was so bad that people were fleeing the state due to very high taxes and onerous regulations, and who can for get the millions spent of the train to nowhere?

Exodus will commence when they repeal Act 10, which took the power away from Teachers Unions to force property tax rates ever higher to pay for the union bosses’ life styes, administrative perks, and teacher Cadillac health care ($0 copay on everything).

Oh, there was some fraud and a LOT Of money from out of state to get ‘Judge Janet’ seated.

Not sure why conservative Wisconsinites put up with this cr@p.

We’ve also had that worthless Tammy Baldwin foisted upon us via outside money.

But our SC candidate was really awful. I held my nose and voted for him, though. He’s mean-spirited and most likely a raging drunk. Ugh!

“I think the left crossed over in the primary to make sure Jennifer Dorow didn’t win.”

That is EXACTLY what happened.

For those who don’t know (and probably don’t care, LOL!) Judge Dorow was the one who threw the book at the Waukesha Christmas Parade Massacre killer. He was a nutjob from Day One and she really kept things rolling along and pretty much let him hang himself.

She would’ve been great going up against the Socialist beotches that sit on our SC bench! :)

Maybe we SHOULD move our Capitol back to Belmont, WI? Couldn’t hurt, might help!

Thank you. The 3rd bullet is rat ballot initiatives. Republican’s have not figured out that you must put these on August primary ballots.
