There is a lot to unpack here. A lot of the ivermectin Rx were written but pharmacies refused to dispense. The FDA will also take this position as it is correct that drug is for sale of course a physician can write for it. This is not a declaration from the FDA that ivermectin should or should not be used.
The fda has not approved IVM for Covid. It is perfectly ok and routine for a physician to write for something off label. As a physician we are bound to disclose why we are using a drug and if it is approved. So if a doc wants to write for ivermectin he or she should document something along the lines of “I have discussed all risks benefits and alternatives of medications available. In my medical judgment I will ivermectin (12 mg once a day for 10 days) and patient agrees and understands that this is an off label use of Ivermectin.”
Now everyone is in the same page and truly is informed.
