After a week’s delay and some concern, West Virginia officials announced a new project to produce clean hydrogen from natural gas in Mason County and deposit greenhouse gas emissions beneath state-owned wildlife areas.

The state Economic Development Authority today approved up to $62.5 million in forgivable loans for Houston-based Fidelis New Energy. Gov. Jim Justice then announced the project and introduced company leaders during an event at the state Culture Center.

“Or another Solyndra?”

Solyndra. It’s well-known that it’s next to impossible to seal-up hydrogen due to its molecule size being very small...so leakage everywhere. From there, it just gets worse, since it will have to be a gas to be stored (unless part of a God-forbid, hydrocarbon)...and the gas will require a lot of pressure, meaning a strong, heavy, tank, and for what - a relatively small amount of energy, at least compared to other fuels.

Use natural gas to produce hydrogen and CO2, then pump the CO2 into underground storage. Then create special storage and pipeline infrastructure for the hydrogen.

Or, just use natural gas.

Tough choice apparently.

In other words, a gift.

As a side note, I’m going down to my local bank later today and get me one of those forgivable loans. I just kick myself for not asking for one the last time I borrowed money.

“Or another Solyndra?”

Oh, never mind, Texas gets rich off the plan. Sounds like a worthy way to clean up the environment to me!

Hydrogen powered, like electric powered, will be gone in 3-5 years, and be a faint memory, as they did in 1895-1915, when steam powered (short lived) and ICE powered vehicles took over.
