Activist Behind Supreme Court Affirmative Action Cases is Now Suing Law Firms

The conservative advocate who engineered the lawsuit behind the U.S. Supreme Court’s June decision to end race-conscious affirmative action in college admissions on Tuesday sued two law firms that offer fellowships for diverse candidates.

The lawsuits, filed by Edward Blum’s two-year-old anti-affirmative-action organization, American Alliance for Equal Rights, accuse the law firms of unlawful racial discrimination against white candidates. They ask the courts to remove race from consideration when selecting fellows. The law firms have offices in Texas and Florida. The suits are filed in federal courts in both states.

The lawsuits target the international law firms Perkins Coie and Morrison & Foerster, but fellowships for diverse candidates are common across the legal industry.

The suit filed in Texas is against Perkins Coie and alleges the firm has been “racially discriminating against future lawyers for decades” by limiting some fellowship positions to applicants who are “‘students of color,’ ‘students who identify as LGBTQ+,’ or ‘students with disabilities.’” The fellowships pay tens of thousands of dollars to first- and second-year law students and provide a pool of prospective employees to the firm where associate salaries can start around $190,000 a year, the suit says.

Good for Mr. Blum. Also, I will cheer any lawsuit against Perkins Coie. That firm has done more harm to our nation than any other law firm I can think of at the moment.

“...fellowships for diverse candidates are common across the legal industry.”

I keep asking, but when was the Civl Rights Act of 1964 repealed?

I've always thought of Perkins Coie as the real-life counterpart to the fictional firm of Wolfram & Hart.

“Personally, these law firms can have scholarships for anyone they like. It’s completely constitutional.”

So you think that law firms should be legally able to offer scholarships with the requirements that the person must be Caucasian to even be considered?

Damn straight. Law firms are private business and the partners have the right of free association inherit in the first amendment. Personally, the scholarships could go as far as saying, “For Caucasians Only, Irish and Scots Need Not Apply”. I’m of Scottish ancestry by the way.

I agree with you on principle, but we both know it doesn’t work that way. A “Caucasians Only” place of employment would be out of business within 48 hours.

I commend this guy for filing these lawsuits. They fall under the category of: If you want to destroy a liberal policy, just force liberals to abide by it.

Yeah, certainly it doesn’t work that way and quite frankly I don’t think it’s a good thing. We should be living in a meritocracy and sometimes that still exists. A meritocracy has its own ways of excluding people. So does all this woke DEI crap despite the ‘I’ standing for inclusion. People just need to lighten up and accept it is human nature.

There will always be someone that is picked last to play kickball in 5th grade.

This is nothing other than “separate but equal”. These places that offer these dont think they are racist but they are. Just like people who were for separate but equal. Which was found unconstitutional for govt and private business.

It leads to more of these racist/sexist policies. Like they won’t offer positions to anyone who’s male or white. Like they won’t promote you if you’re male or white. It already happens and thats racist/sexist.

I love that, is it a quote?

I’ve seen variations of it posted here on FR, but I don’t know who came up with it first!
