I haven’t lived there but worked for a company that was formerly HQed there and had a large presence so I was there a lot. There are some beautiful parks, buildings, etc but the people always struck me as being just awful. Outside the Cities, yeah, you could find “Minnesota Nice” everywhere, but Minneapolis was turning in to a shithole 15 years ago and no doubt the transition is complete by now. I have zero interest in every going there again.
A former employer sent me to a technical seminar in downtown Mpls back in 1992 or thereabouts, and it was the first time I had been downtown in a number of years. I was shocked even then by how empty and seedy much of it had become. Shortly afterward, I had a bizarre conversation with a vendor who had relocated his family "safely east" of the Twin Cities, and he explained the destructive path they were on and some of the entities behind it. His predictions for the future were remarkably accurate.
I have no desire to ever go back for any reason.
