President Vladimir Putin has ordered Wagner fighters to sign an oath of allegiance to the Russian state after a deadly plane crash believed to have killed Yevgeny Prigozhin, the volatile chief of the mercenary group.

They are mercenaries. Aren’t the loyal to the name on their paycheck?

These thousands of battle hardened mercenaries loyal to Prigozhin even in death won’t kiss Putin’s ring as easily as he might hope. Putin whacked a hornet’s nest with a baseball bat.

No different than the oath our military takes:

"...and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States..."

Putin couldn’t afford to let that trash talking punk get away with it without appearing weak. I’m only surprised it took this long to kill him.

Not just that, but note the symmetry: Prighozhin shot down an intelligence gathering AN-24 killing 10.

Pooty Poot demonstrated he didn’t forget. Or forgive.

Yes, but they probably liked their old boss more than the new boss. Some bosses you work harder for and others you do the bare minimum or less.

Yesterday when Putin made his public statement about the plane crash I thought it was telling that he said Prighozhin made one too many mistakes instead of eulogizing him as any sort of hero. Message sent.

“Putin whacked a hornet’s nest with a baseball bat.”

He’s got plenty of backup.

What I did hear was that Prigozhin had recently signed contracts with a number of African countries and apparently Putin wasn’t happy about that either. Basically Prigozhin was getting too big for his britches and essentially signed his own death warrant.

They need a leader. Now they have no one to follow.
