City official behind 'SF doom loop' tour resigns after trying to claim it was 'satire'

A San Francisco city official who organized a walking tour meant to showcase the “squalor” of downtown is resigning, Mayor London Breed’s office confirmed to SFGATE.

Earlier this month, a posting appeared on Eventbrite that promoted a “Downtown Doom Loop Walking Tour,” angering local residents and raising questions about the event’s seriousness and the identity of its anonymous organizer, who described themself as a city commissioner.

The tour was scheduled for Saturday but was canceled by the organizer Friday, which prompted some Eventbrite ticket holders to seek a refund. Alex Ludlum, who served as the vice chair on the city’s Commission on Community Investment and Infrastructure, was linked to it when his email address was included in refund notices sent to ticket holders, the San Francisco Chronicle reported over the weekend. (The Chronicle and SFGATE are both owned by Hearst but have separate newsrooms.)

In a statement sent to SFGATE on Monday afternoon, Breed’s office confirmed Ludlum was behind the event and said his decision to organize the tour represented a “deep error in judgment.”

“Alex Ludlum has informed the Mayor’s Office that he is resigning from the OCII Commission,” the statement read. “The decision to organize and publicize the tour was a mistake and a deep error in judgment. We are working every day to address the City’s challenges, and our focus remains on doing the work to move this City forward.”

Sure, blame the messenger, morons. I'm sure that'll fix the death spiral that this once-great city is in the middle of.

“Themself”.

These bastard jackasses can’t even speak the language right in any manner. 1000 years of usage, down the drain, to cater to insane people.

Sorry, on a tangent but I can’t help it.

As far as the tour, I think it’s a great idea, and if it was done outside the City auspices, too bad.

I’ve had major respect fie the guy if he’d said bleep you and made them fire him instead of apologizing and quitting.

Makes me wonder if SF used taxpayer money to pay him to go away.

Someone should really ask the guy.

Bet his answer would tell us a lot.

The puke that passes as reporters these days. Could have easily written as "self-described as a city commissioner..."

Dude, if you took money to grovel then go away...

May your chains set lightly upon you.

They should be having field trips for every elementary school to highlight the wonders of democrat policies.

This guy’s fatal mistake was calling his event “The Downtown Doom Loop Walking Tour”.

He’d still be in business if he had gone with “The San Francisco is Great, Please Ignore the Violence, Trash, and Empty Storefronts Walking Tour.”

See? It’s all in the branding.

For hard-core leftists, politics IS reality.

And anyone who offers a differing view of such reality is suppressed, because they don’t view reality correctly

Its why mental institutions were common for dissidents in the Soviet Union

He’d still be in business if he had gone with “The San Francisco is Great, Please Ignore the Violence, Trash, and Empty Storefronts Walking Tour.”

I would propose: The "Please Tread Carefully as We Wade through the Human Filth, Infected Needles, and Aggressive Loonies Tour."

Not as if the “doom loop” isn’t on full display - with all the closed businesses and homeless drug addicts and mentally ill all over the streets - and media reports and photos about all of it all over the news.

I’d suggest anyone going into these areas wear a mask b/c the smell is horrendous (entire area smells like urine) - and watch where they step b/c there are needles strewn everywhere.

Unfortunately, those needles are washing up on the beaches - I was there when a city worker was cleaning up and he told me he was finding 15 or more needles per day washed up along the beach - and to keep an eye on my dogs b/c the needles were buried with driftwood and seaweed.

Who is the guy whose job it is to regularly update that map?

How does he do it? By analyzing satellite photos? Using thermal imaging? Employing feces-penetrating radar?

And how much is he paid? Certainly: Not enough.

Exactly—just like if you want to keep videos on Youtube just title them “Vaccines are great—why you need to get your booster now.”

Then you can discuss any topic you wish....

There is a business model for some enterprising entrepreneur who is not a city employee.

I can’t imagine paying money to walk through that.
