Retired Army Gen. David Petraeus complimented the Ukrainian military for a long-awaited counteroffensive that has disappointed some Western allies, saying the Ukrainian army has “adapted very impressively” to defenses that were more formidable than expected.
“No plan survives contact with the enemy and that has been true in this case,” Petraeus said in a CNN interview Tuesday. “Certainly there were hopes… that they might be able to mount combined arms operations that could penetrate the Russian defenses, but that was before we all learned about the depth of these defenses, about the sophistication of them.”

Sounds like a lot of verbiage just to say that the Ukraine is flapping in the breeze.
But Ukraine will lose this war. Russia is drawing it out a bit until they can kill every last one of Ukraine's fighting forces. Won't be long until Ukrainian civilians will be forced to load their muskets.
In other words, losing 400000 soldiers KIA in a space of less than two years is wonderful adaption...

Russia has zero chance of meaningful advance and Ukraine will eventually West them out and down. It’s just a question of how long a horrid slog it will be.
Western media are thinking USA style massive and quick advances.
This is back to Korea or WWI brutality. Very slow, very high casualties.
Its all a question of time—Drag it out—Trump wins election, funds for Ukraine dry up, its too the peace table and Russia gets all they have and maybe more. Once Funds are gone—so is Mr. Z.

Yeah, Russia is playing 3D chess; not! Russia has bitten off more than it can chew. Its dream of a quick victory blew up in the first year and now they are on the defensive. This is not to say that Ukraine can beat them, but Russia has already reached its high water mark.
It appears that Ukraine will be imposing a total callup of any breathing body between 14-70 including government personnel ... throw bodies at them.

F-ing LIAR - Literally EVERYONE knew that the Russians built massive defenses (they cannot be hidden), for months before the ‘Greatest Offensive Operation’.
So why lie about it: Simple - because admitting we knew of the Russians defenses is no different than packing the Ukrainian soldiers into box cars, but I guess since they were Ukrainians, what’s the big deal?
