Judge rejects Mark Meadows' bid to move Georgia case to federal court, ramping up pressure on him and other co-defendants to flip on Trump

Mark Meadows' latest court flop increases the pressure facing the co-defendants charged alongside Donald Trump in the Georgia election interference case to flip on the former President and cooperate with the prosecution, one former federal prosecutor told Insider.

In a Friday ruling, US District Court Judge Steve Jones denied Meadows' bid to move the prosecution against him to federal court.

In his ruling, Jones argued that when Meadows urged Georgia's secretary of state to "find" enough votes to declare Trump the winner of the state in the 2020 election, his behavior fell outside the scope of his official duties of White House Chief of Staff and, thus, the prosecution against him should continue in Georgia state court.

"Meadows's participation on the January 2, 2021 call was political in nature and involved the President's private litigation, neither of which are related to the scope of the Office of White House Chief of Staff," Jones wrote in his ruling, which Meadows' legal team promptly appealed.

"The Court finds that these contributions to the phone call with Secretary Raffensperger went beyond those activities that are within the official role of White House Chief of Staff, such as scheduling the President's phone calls, observing meetings, and attempting to wrap up meetings in order to keep the President on schedule," Jones continued.

I think the Georgia charges are the most idiotic of charges against Trump. Persecution. I also increasingly think it might come down to a Clinton-like definition of is, so-to-speak.

Meadows failed to get his case moved to federal court. Reading the reasoning, that seems valid. This is a personal political matter on behalf of Trump, not a presidential matter on behalf of the president. Hard to argue the logic of that, even if the charges are persecution.

So, will Meadows stand by Trump or be the next to flip?

Time will tell. Nearly everyone else that has worked for Trump has turned on him. Why would Meadows be any different?

It's amusing to see the court basically said Meadows wasted time trying to explain how the 8 acts he's mentioned in fit into his federal role.

It said he was fine except it didn't like that he couldn't define the limits of his role as Chief of Staff other than to refer to the Hatch Act as applying to him.

It concluded 1 of the 8 applied to his job role but also showed other areas were he was more clearly acting in another role rather than as WH Chief of Staff. The court argues the Executive Branch has no role in policing state elections to ensure they're properly conducted which is bizarre.

Hatch doesn't apply to POTUS but I'm doubtful Trump will succeed in having his case moved to federal court since it's harder for him to argue he wasn't acting on behalf of himself as a candidate. We'll see.

I have not felt these cases are about law enforcement but about persecuting one particular candidate and part of a broad conspiracy to keep the American People from even having the opportunity to elect him again but more to the point, if he gets elected again, how many more politically motivated efforts to undermine the duly elected POTUS, like the Russia Hoax scam, will we see?

Let's not pretend there weren't wannabe insurrectionists in the Trump administration.

Re: "There is nothing to flip on."

Thank you, Williams.

My first thought, also.

Also - the President of the USA has the most politically intense job in the world.

For the Obama federal Judge to pretend that Chief of Staff Mark Meadows was NOT professionally engaged - full time - in elections and politics is absurd.

No testimony given by these knuckledheads “flipped” by the Feddy gestapo should be allowed in court. This testimony was made only to keep the person out of prison. It had nothing to do with President Trump. This wouldn’t have been allowed to happen in America 20 years ago. These young Feddy Mofos are all liars and frauds. IMHO.

Let’s just get these four trials done and over with. Too many obsessed with them. I can’t wait until we no longer hear about the trials.

“So, will Meadows stand by Trump or be the next to flip?

The concept of “flip” is code for “lying.”

The Georgia case is much too clumsy and outrageous for anyone to safely lie about it.

Meadows wanted it out of Georgia state jurisdiction because he doesn’t trust anyone to handle it with any degree of fairness and intelligence. It is rigged from the start.

There will be no “flipping” from Meadows or any of those people.

Isn’t it amazing that all of a sudden being President of the United States is a 9-5 job with weekends off and all of his staff are in the same category!

Only a Obama Judge would think that way.
