US likely to send long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine for the first time: Officials

The Biden administration is likely to send Ukraine long-range Army Tactical Missile Systems, or ATACMS, to help in its fight to repel the Russian invasion of its territory, according to U.S. officials.

"They are coming," said one official who had access to security assistance plans. The official noted that, as always, such plans are subject to change until officially announced.

A second official said the missiles are "on the table" and likely to be included in an upcoming security assistance package, adding that a final decision has not been made. It could be months before Ukraine receives the missiles, according to the official.

With a range of up to 190 miles, depending on the version, deploying ATACMS could allow Ukraine to reach targets nearly four times further away than with the currently-provided rockets for its U.S.-made High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems and M270 multiple-launch rocket systems.

Your right about the disinformation coming from both sides as both have something publicly to gain, Russia their dominance and fear efforts and the Ukraine their pitiful cries for help. And I’ve seen doctored UTUBE videos on many occasions. So unless I can put my hands on it, I don’t trust it very much.

Besides, except for the huge amount of money he US has supplied to in reality both sides, it’s none of out business and we never should have gotten into their civil war in the first place.

“Russia isn’t interested in peace, only war”

***************

So what is Biden interested in? Certainly not anything having to do with any kind of settlement to this dangerous mess. He’s not even giving any lip service to peace or otherwise encouraging a resolution to the conflict. All he is doing is relentlessly escalating and deepening our involvement and edging us ever closer to direct conflict with Russia.

Recent polling by CNN showed that most Americans oppose Congress authorizing additional funding to support Ukraine. Moreover, a majority of Americans expressed concerns that Russia’s war in Ukraine will threaten US national security (56%). And being a CNN poll, those results are likely ‘softer’ than objective polling would indicate.

Also bear in mind that China is a quiet beneficiary of this war. It is gaining a treasure trove of intelligence about tactics, weapons and strategies that we are providing to Ukraine. This is a significant, and largely cost free harvest of valuable information for China.

Russia’s leaders may be stupid (as you say) but our leaders are not exactly standing out as exemplary either.

Well, in my opinion Putin started it with a completely unjustified invasion of Ukraine.

But Biden escalated the matter unnecessarily by sending the 101st Airborne to Germany and F-35s to England and other actions. These long-range missiles just give Putin another excuse to push the nuclear button and I don’t want that.
