DeSantis' actions in storm aftermath could shake things up in the 2024 GOP primary race: experts

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is earning praise from citizens and politicians in his state and across the country for his response to Hurricane Idalia, which some strategists told Fox News displayed leadership GOP voters are hungry for.

Hurricane Idalia made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane near Keaton Beach, Florida...

Gov. DeSantis was widely praised in the media for his handling of the storm, and while he has maintained a stance that storms should not be politicized, political strategists who spoke to Fox News Digital said GOP voters will surely take notice of his leadership.

...polling shows two ... important qualities ... Republican voters care most about in their nominee are "Strength & Determination" and "Getting Things Done."

Two Floridians on the ground near where the hurricane made landfall told Fox News Digital that DeSantis displayed those very qualities during interactions they both had with him personally in the aftermath of the storm.

"Zero politicking, zero grandstanding, zero publicity about his appearance," a longtime resident of hard hit Crystal River, Florida, who wished to remain anonymous, told Fox News Digital about her experience with DeSantis. "I was very impressed with his presence and it not being about him at all."

"He graciously went into some buildings that got flood damage," the resident said. "He was actually exactly what you want him there to be. And in a position like he's running for president, he could definitely have gotten on a podium and proclaim. He didn't. In my opinion, he did exactly what he had to do."

... DeSantis is the "only serious candidate" currently running on both sides that can "actively demonstrate executive leadership in real-time", adding that "most Democrats don’t even expect that of Joe Biden these days."

"As the old saying goes, ‘show, don’t tell.’ ...

DeSantis not a great personality. But, he is a great leader. Contrast that to Biden, who has an asshole personality, couldn’t lead ants to sugar, is the only human with a negative number IQ, has a family more corrupt than Pelosi, and a believability even less than the media. And he sniffs children and showered with his daughter. A more contemptible human being existeth not in the multiverse.

One of the first lessons we learn as children is that you don’t get credit for doing the things you’re supposed to do.
It’s wonderful that the Florida governor is stepping up and I’m sure the residents appreciate his efforts, but it doesn’t change the dynamics of the 2024 election cycle.
President Trump’s numbers are getting stronger every day and I don’t believe that there’s anyone on that republican debate stage that would come close to defeating him in the primaries, much less defeating the massive dead weight of the dems and the fake news media.
I’ve been getting junk mail from Americans For Prosperity telling me that if Trump is the nominee, the republicans will lose 2024.
The reality is the exact opposite.
If Trump is not the nominee then America is almost certainly finished as a free country.
President Reagan saved us from the “EVIL EMPIRE”, but it didn’t go away.
The America-hating hippies of the 1960s have rebuilt it here in America, and they are determined to destroy us.
This is it. Armageddon is what follows if Trump isn’t the nominee.
TRUMP 2024.

I’m sure many Americans noticed the successful response,

I doubt that most Americans even know there was a hurricane in Florida.

It's not like the 1970s when there were only three TV networks, and everyone paid attention to the same national news reports. Modern America is fragmented.

“Murdoch still trying to make DeSantis win.”

Exactly. More BS from Murdock and Ryan.

This is because DeSantis actually knows how to get along with people, make allies and get team support.

Trump was great at calling attention to the problem (the Deep State) but ended up carrying out their policies (the shutdown, etc.). This was because couldn’t make allies, especially after he had attacked them personally and cruelly in the primaries, and he would turn on people who thought they were his allies because if they were competent, he felt they were challengers (they weren’t).

On the other hand, he never called the Dems to account and thought that making nice was the way to go. It wasn’t. Nancy Pelosi only tore up his SOTU on live TV because she knew she could get away with it. A President with cojones would have had her removed immediately. But that was typical, and he let them gain power.

He still thought he was a wealthy showman running “The Apprentice.”

Instead of negotiating with the opposition, he governed by executive orders, which were promptly overturned by the opposing party.

Exactly. Obama did the same thing. Bush is usually blamed for executive orders, but actually a lot of those were just enabling orders to speed up supplies, etc. for the Iraq war.

We don’t need to go into the Iraq war, which is a separate issue, LOL!

But the point is that Obama issued all sorts of bizarre orders (which should have been opposed by Congress, because they skipped the actual lawmaking body) and while Trump overturned them, he never got Congress to pass laws on these matters that would oppose or prevent them in the future. So they only lasted until the Dems got in power again.

I think all credit needs to be given to Trump for calling attention to the problem, the administrative state (”Deep State”). But he just wasn’t able to deal with it.

He is an expert at hurricanes. Is it difficult to give him credit for anything?

On here Romney and McCain got the same love as trump. God help you if you said a negative word on either one. You were crucified. Doesn’t matter they were right.

Some of the political assessment on this thread is very sophomoric.

Leadership like this…

Blaming President Trump is a fine art mastered by reno... morning, noon, night, midnight, reno is always bitching about President Trump ... I cannot tell if you are a male or female ... too much bitching to figure out the gender.

Why did you calm down and get real. Tell me when something went wrong that Trump did not blame someone else.

I am calm and I am 'real'..... I have NO clue what you are babbling about ... that President Trump 'blamed' someone else! You rag, witch, whine, and moan more than any other human I have ever encountered .... Is this a new you or have you always sucked up the oxygen and erupted like a fuming volcano... total and complete drama queen.

So, bottom line, you can’t name a single incident where Trump did not blame someone else for something that went wrong. Nice to know.
