n Monday, the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission denied a permit for a controversial carbon capture pipeline in the state. Summit Carbon Solutions (SCS) had filed dozens of eminent domain lawsuits against South Dakota landowners to seize properties that had been in their families for generations.
The carbon technology captures carbon dioxide pollution from ethanol plants, power plants and steel factories, and stores it deep underground. The $5.5 billion Midwest Carbon Express pipeline would have extract carbon from ethanol plants in Iowa and stored it underground in North Dakota.
The Inflation Reduction Act, signed into law by Joe Biden last year, massively expanded tax credits for the potentially dangerous carbon capture projects. Last week, Navigator Heartland Greenway, a carbon capture company based in Nebraska, saw its own permit request be denied after weeks of hearings.
As American Greatness reported earlier this year, SCS went to court to seize the property rights of more than 80 South Dakota landowners because their land was in the path of the company’s planned 2,000-mile carbon capture pipeline. According to some accounts, surveyors from the company trespassed on the properties and intimidated the farmers with armed security guards.

While the denial decision is a major setback to the project, it is not the end. Summit Carbon can reapply for a permit if it still intends to build its pipeline in South Dakota, “essentially restarting their application process at square-one,” according to the Argus Leader.
As their constituents faced eminent domain lawsuits, many key South Dakota Republicans were accused putting the agendas of lobbyists and donors above the property rights of their constituents.

The Biden administration has announced that it intends to spend $1.2 billion to essentially vacuum carbon dioxide from Earth’s air.
It’s called “direct air capture” (DAC), and according to CNN, it’s very much so “akin to huge vacuum cleaners sucking carbon dioxide out of the air.”

Yep, and my question from back then (June) still stands:
Bad behavior on the part of “Summit Carbon Solutions”, but my question is why “eminent domain” for a pipeline? Most pipelines are a “right-of-way”/easement issue, i.e. the farmer continues to use the land above the pipeline to farm, with the pipeline company having easement rights for inspections/repairs, etc..

The problem is “the easement rights”.
It would appear they are perpetual.
In reality it allows the pipeline company access right across cropland, for almost any purpose.
Access without permission of the landowner.
I do believe there is significant etc. etc. involved impacting property rights of the farmer.
The sooner reality kills the idea of “green energy” the better. Same for global warming, climate change, and any other Godless scheme portraying the Creator as a clueless dunce.

I just planted some carbon capture devices in my yard last spring. I didn’t need any permits and no body said anything to be about them. In I few years, Pachamama may return some apples and pears to me . . . can’t wait.
I really get a lot from reading articles in FR because there is always something about the latest government projects, many of which are stupid beyond belief. Carbon dioxide is not now, nor has ever been to my knowledge, an air pollutant. Can’t these people even read? If one could sum up all the ignorant ideas produced for our government to consider wasting money on, I believe we could waste the entire budget on this crap. We may be a large part of the way there already.
